The Sims 4’s latest free update broadens representation by adding West African-inspired food, clothes, and furniture

You probably weren’t counting on The Sims 4 dropping an interesting update this late into the year. But there are new reasons to take you away from the busy fall gaming season and get you back into roleplay mode.

The game’s latest free update adds new Build, Buy and Create a Sim items inspired by West African culture and designs.

The new update is one of the more visually striking, made up of the sort of patterns and colours you’ll see in art and culture originating from West Africa. There are several new items you can use to customise the look of your Sims.

They’re the Okuta Lamp with Woven Shade, Itura Cushion, Visions of Home Decorative Art, Wallu Woven Basket, Hiwe Area Rug, and West African Aloe Plant.

Beyond the new customisation items, your Sims can now also cook Jollof Rice with Chicken Drumsticks. There’s an extra decor object in this update, too, made up of wooden bowls called Trio of Flavor. The bowls themselves include ingredients common in West African cuisine.

And update like that won’t quite work without a wardrobe of new fashion items with the same inspirations, and you’re going to find a bunch of them in Create a Sim.

Perhaps more interesting than the update itself, however, is that the new content was created with the help of the Pan African Gaming Group (PAGG), alongside Sims players. The players have lived experiences and direct connections to West African countries, based in the UK and North America.

Beyond that, this latest update fixes over 150 issues reported by the community, and you can find out all of them at the link. The update is available now on PC, Mac, and consoles.
