Rockstar Games still hasn’t uncovered the identity of the person or group known as “Cyberleeks” that appears to be behind ongoing leaks of Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay clips, according to a new report by Bloomberg. That’s despite a week of almost daily videos showing previously unrevealed parts of the November 19 release.
A much-anticipated “extended” look at the game is planned as a Netflix exclusive for August 27. According to Bloomberg, Rockstar Games isn’t planning to change that because of the leaks or deviate from the rest of its marketing beats. At the same time, it’s “all hands on deck” to try and figure out how the latest breach occurred. A 2022 hack led to much stricter security protocols, including the end of remote work. Yet somehow, somebody still seemed to manage to get access to what could be an early build of the game.
Even in an industry infamous for secrecy and leveraging the legal system to protect IP, Take-Two has fostered a reputation for being particularly aggressive when it comes to things like shutting down fan projects or prosecuting mishandling of its trademarked and copyrighted materials. All week, fans have been joking about the company’s lawyers showing up to the leaker’s house and making them disappear.
Earlier today, Kotaku reported Take-Two had already filed requests to subpoena records from Discord and Microsoft that might help it identify how the leaks happened and who’s behind them. In the meantime, Rockstar Games has remained completely silent on social media, with none of its routine posts about GTA Online, Red Dead Redemption Online, or its other games going live.
