How Does the ‘Duck Dynasty’ Family Compound Work?

Duck Dynasty star Korie Robertson says that her secret to building an extended family compound is simple. You’ve got to create a home that your adult children want to come back to.

In a new social media video, Robertson addressed the question she says fans ask her the most: Why the family lives on a compound.

Does the Duck Dynasty Family Really Live on a Family Compound?

Yes. Robertson says that a large group of them live in the same immediate area in West Monroe, La.

“We do live on a family compound, I guess you could say. It’s really just a neighborhood that we all live here together,” she explains. “Over 50 of us live on the property.”

That includes family from both her side and her husband Willie’s. Many of their adult children, some with spouses and children of their own, have decided to settle on the family compound, too.

“Willie and I say it’s the best thing we ever did, was create that space [for] our home that our kids wanted to come back to,” Robertson reflects.

“They all kind of went off to college or got married or pursued a career or whatever for a few years and then came back … we feel like that is literally our greatest success, the best thing we ever did,” she adds.

How Did the Duck Dynasty Family Convince Their Kids to Live on a Family Compound?

Korie Robertson says fans frequently ask her how she managed to convince so many of her six children to plant their lives on the Louisiana compound instead of branching out to other areas.

“I think the [most important] thing is just make your home fun and a place where your young people want to be — and invite them,” she replies to that.

She says that she and Willie have never put pressure on their kids to live close by.

“There’s no force. There’s no judgment or shame of like, ‘You should live here. You should do this,’” Robertson continues. “It’s more just like, ‘Hey, we’re having fun, it’s a good life over here. If you wanna be a part of it, come on.’”

“So it’s been really fun and sweet to see our kids do that and come back here,” she adds.

The family also came together for Duck Dynasty: The Revival, which follows the original cast (and some new additions) through their life today.

Season 2 of the revival premiered in March. The 10-episode season will conclude this Saturday (May 9).

‘Duck Dynasty’: What Happened to the Kids?

Duck Dynasty was centered on the lives of Willie, Si, Phil and Jase Robertson, but their respective children and grandchildren became breakout stars, too. Here is what each of the Dynasty children have been up to since the A&E reality show ended in 2017. There are marriages, career achievements and babies — so many babies.
