A new update to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has already been splitting gamers’ opinions, but there is a possibility that fans of the game will be able to benefit from the anime’s release. The new season of the anime developed by Trigger is set to be released later this year. Last week, the first teaser trailer of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 was released, revealing the new cast of characters and a look into what spectators will be able to expect from the plot, which will seemingly be disconnected from the first season’s story.
Now, fans have taken to discussing the possibility of a new update to Cyberpunk 2077, due to the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunner 2. In a post on Reddit, user Crazyjack278 questioned “how likely” the game is to receive in-game content referring to the anime, much like how it received content related to David Martinez and other characters from the first season. The post led to a huge debate among fans talking about the possibility, and mentions of CD Projekt RED’s official response to the game.
After the release of the first season, players were able to get David Martinez’s jacket in Cyberpunk 2077 as part of a free update referencing the anime. Now, players are uncertain about the possibility of something similar happening with Season 2, and that is because of the studio’s announcement. As was mentioned by DoktorKazz, CD Projekt RED has already mentioned that the updates for Cyberpunk 2077 have come to an end, as the studio has started to focus on Project Orion.
They do highlight, however, that they wouldn’t be surprised if the studio were to add some “iconic weapons or something.” The user’s speculation isn’t too far-fetched. The official final Cyberpunk 2077 update happened with Version 2.0 in September 2023, but that was followed up by Version 2.1 a few months later, and Version 2.2 in 2024. It doesn’t seem like CD Projekt RED is truly done with the action-based RPG.
In response to DoktorKazz, user HeadRaccoonGamer highlights that the studio outsourced development on the content for the last major patch for Cyberpunk 2077, insinuating that this could very well happen for the rumored anime content in the game after the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 in Fall 2026. It is worth noting that CD Projekt RED is known for supporting its games well after what players would expect.
For example, this year, the company announced a brand-new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Songs of the Past. It will arrive 11 years after the base game’s release, and 10 years after the last DLC. This type of behavior may be applied to Cyberpunk 2077 in the following years, and content related to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 may be the start of it.
