The idiom “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” has felt especially relevant in regards to horror lately – every hyped film of 2025 so far has ended up relying on some form of diabolical cult or yet another evil hag, resulting in more yawns than screams from avid sickos at the cinema. While aiming for viral success the genre seems to have forgotten that the horrifying can just be that, and not every mystery needs to be unraveled by the final act, ready to be easily dissected in another ‘Ending Explained!’ YouTube video. Thankfully there are still some filmmakers…
Friends of Friends are an Australian band crafting raw, atmospheric, and genre-defying music. They fuse jarring guitars with cinematic textures and visceral storytelling, all driven by a fearless DIY ethos. Fronted by multi-instrumentalist Barnaby Baker (with British roots and a love of distortion and britpop), the lineup includes Frank Christian, Morgan Blake, and Jess Cameron — each bringing unique influences and depth to the project. They’ve already earned praise from triple j as “great, lethal modern rock,” and have been spotlighted in Kerrang! and through BBC Introducing.“Skin” is high-energy and fuzzy, a track built on the tension between longing and exposure. The band…
Here is a fear that I have. People who want to watch old movies take their cues from Google — and Google increasingly seems to recommend a smaller and smaller batch of films. You Google “90s movies” and you will see the same titles over and over as you scroll: Clueless, The Truman Show, Scream, 10 Things I Hate About You, Forrest Gump, Goodfellas, Toy Story. (These are not hypothetical examples; those are literally the movies Google gave me this morning.)Those are very good movies for the most part. A movie lover interested in ’90s cinema should see those titles. But what movie lover interested in ’90s cinema hasn’t already seen them anyway? The…
In an age where streaming platforms deliver stories at the speed of thought, some series manage to cut through the noise wonderfully and pull audiences into worlds so vivid and characters so three-dimensional that you almost find yourself caught in their orbit. However, some of these shows are cut short, never getting the chance to breathe, and leaving unanswered questions behind. It’s a frustrating cycle: just as fans grow attached, the credits roll on what could’ve been the next great binge. Netflix, despite its vast catalog and cultural influence, has been no stranger to these premature cancellations. But for every…

SNOOPER are a Nashville-based art-punk collective bringing an unfiltered jolt of speed, satire, and sonic mayhem to the underground. Known for their lightning-fast songs, DIY visuals, and absurdist live performances, they combine hardcore ferocity with playful experimentation — part punk, part performance art, and entirely their own. Their sound blends lo-fi guitars, frenetic drumming, and bursts of electronic noise, creating a chaotic but razor-focused form of punk that’s equally thrilling and thought-provoking.“STAR * 69” captures everything that makes SNOOPER unstoppable — it’s fast, fuzzy, and full of mischief. The track explodes in under two minutes, mixing whiplash rhythms, distorted synths, and shouted…

Every decade offers its own pop culture icons that reflect the time period, but it’s hard to compete with the 1980s. Whether it’s music, movies, or television, the 1980s produced some of the most legendary pieces of work that are still enjoyed today. It was an era that saw groundbreaking ideas come to television, and with it, iconic characters who remain influential in modern programming. There are countless characters that made watching television in the decade appointment viewing, but above all the rest, there are some unquestionable stars who take top honors. From a genius action adventurer to a furry…
