The Leapmotor B05 will become the Chinese brand’s cheapest model in Australia when it arrives here next month, undercutting not only the B10 and C10 SUVs but also other small hatchbacks like the Toyota Corolla – despite being all-electric.
Arriving late in August, the B05 range will open with the Style at $35,990 drive-away, with the Design Long Range priced at $39,990 drive-away.
These are special drive-away prices, which will be available for vehicles purchased and delivered between July 1 and September 30, 2026.

For context, the small B10 electric SUV is priced from $35,888 before on-road costs ($39,980 drive-away based on a NSW postcode), while the Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport is priced at $32,110 plus on-roads or $36,146 drive-away in NSW – though the Japanese hybrid hatch is slightly cheaper than the Chinese challenger in some states.
The most direct rival for the B05 is the MG 4 EV electric hatch, which is priced at $39,990 drive-away in base rear-wheel drive Essence 64 guise.
Like the MG 4, and unlike a raft of other cut-price electric hatchbacks from China, the small B05 hatch features a single-motor rear-wheel drive powertrain.
Leapmotor claims a 50:50 weight distribution, and says chassis tuning was conducted in Italy with its partner Stellantis, which owns brands such as Alfa Romeo and Maserati.
The B05 will be offered in Australia in two variants: the Style, incorporating a 56.2kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery offering 401km of WLTP range; and the Design LR, with a larger 67.1kWh LFP battery affording 482km of range.
Both use a 160kW electric motor and support 11kW AC charging, with the DC fast-charge rates being 156kW and 174kW respectively.
All B05s feature an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus satellite navigation, over-the-air software updates, a surround-view camera with dashcam recording functionality, and a suite of connected services allowing you to remotely access vehicle functions such as the locks and climate control.
The Design LR adds niceties like heated, power-adjustable front seats, ‘TechnoLeather’ upholstery instead of cloth, a 12-speaker sound system, and a fixed panoramic glass roof with a power sunshade.
The standard paint colour is actually a colour – Lightning Yellow – with Galaxy Silver, Windy Grey, Metallic Black and Starry Night Blue available for an extra $990.
The introduction of the B05 gives Leapmotor a three-strong lineup in Australia, where its model range also includes the small B10 and mid-size C10 SUVs. These are available with electric or extended-range electric (EREV) powertrains, though the B05 is electric-only.
Leapmotor is evaluating whether to develop an EREV version of the B05.
