Another player called Elmo_Chipshop points out that you can see her skeletal remains in an outhouse in the epilogue, implying that her family never let her out and she “apparently starved to death.”

During “The Course of True Love” missions, players can eventually learn about Gertrude Braithwaite, who was locked away in an outhouse by her family to hide her disfigurement and mental illness.
This was done instead of taking her to the asylum, which Penelope Braithwaite describes as an act of kindness given the asylum’s terrible conditions. MasterChiefOnPS5 finally discovered Gertrude after all these years, pointing just how “sick” the Braithwaites truly are for leaving her there.
He was then wowed by the fact that you can actually go back and find her corpse in the epilogue several years later. The discovery reveals that the Braithwaites never ended up releasing Gertrude from the outhouse after all, and the implication is that she starved to death and was left to rot.
