    Art-Pop Experimentation Blooms Into a Post-Punk Explosion

Why it is trending: 1000 Rabbits’ “Virgin Soil” is gaining buzz across indie circles and tastemaker playlists thanks to its playful art-pop textures, explosive post-punk climax, and the growing hype around the band as the newest signing to Young.

1000 Rabbits are a young five-piece originally from the coastal town of Aldeburgh, now based in London, where they quickly embedded themselves in the city’s thriving underground scene. Formerly known as Rabbitfoot, the band blends violin and synthesizer with the classic guitar-bass-drums setup, creating a sound that feels both orchestral and raw. After becoming part of the storied community around The Windmill Brixton and sharpening their identity through relentless live shows, they emerged as the newest act on the respected Young roster. With early comparisons to boundary-pushing indie acts and a reputation for dynamic performances, 1000 Rabbits are quickly carving out their place in the UK’s next wave of alternative music.

“Virgin Soil,” their first official single, captures the spirit of a band discovering itself in real time. Beginning as a cool, playful art-pop track, it gradually builds tension before erupting into a howling, cathartic post-punk finale — a payoff that reflects months of refining the song on stage. The band describes it as a representation of their beginnings: rule-free experimentation and creative chemistry coming to life. Accompanied by a bucolic video directed by Cuan Roche, “Virgin Soil” feels like both a starting point and a statement — the sound of something new taking root and growing wildly in its own direction.
