It was December 2024 when Jaguar hit the reset button by unveiling the striking two-door Type 00. The ostentatious coupe signaled the British brand’s move into super-luxury territory, with much higher prices and lower volumes, taking aim at Bentley rather than BMW. Although the concept is already a year and a half old, we still have to wait a while longer for the production model.
In the meantime, Jaguar is revealing the final version’s name: Type 01. It’s a straightforward moniker that sends a clear message: zero emissions and the first model following the company’s upmarket move. For Managing Director Rawdon Glover, the two figures also carry different meanings: zero signifies a “complete brand reset,” while one represents “one of a kind.”
Naming aside, the Jaguar Type 01 is shaping up to be one of the most interesting vehicles of our time. A major change from concept to production is the adoption of a more practical four-door body style for the outlandish GT, which measures about 204.7 inches (5.2 meters) long. It’s bound to have a cavernous cabin thanks to the massive 126-inch (3.2-meter) wheelbase, which will also accommodate a large battery pack with a net capacity of approximately 120 kWh.

Jaguar Type 01: Technical Specifications
Expect the production car to cover 400 miles (644 kilometers) on a single charge in the EPA test cycle and as much as 430 miles (692 kilometers) under WLTP. The giant battery will feed a tri-motor setup developing a combined output of more than 986 horsepower and virtually instant torque exceeding 959 pound-feet (1,300 Newton-meters).
Jaguar claims these impressive specs will translate into an “engaging drive with deep reserves of power, plus refinement and composure.” Even the base model will come standard with 23-inch wheels, although a smaller 21-inch set is planned for certain countries where the roads aren’t that great. As you’d expect from a high-end vehicle, the Type 01 is getting sophisticated air suspension with active twin-valve dampers to deliver a silky-smooth ride.
While some reports had speculated Jaguar would offer a range-extending version, the company has officially ruled out installing a combustion engine. In the future, the Tata Motors-owned company will sell only purely electric vehicles. These will carry much higher price tags than what you’re used to from the brand with the leaping cat, starting well above $100,000.
The world premiere is scheduled for later this year, with the first deliveries in the first half of 2027.

Motor1’s Take: In the history of the automobile, it’s rare for a company to take such a radical turn. It’s not just about going exclusively electric, but also about raising prices to such a high level in an effort to attract an almost entirely different customer base. In fact, Jaguar has admitted it doesn’t expect more than 15 percent of customers to return, essentially acknowledging it’s willing to lose most of its clientele.
As for who will buy the Type 00 and the other models to follow, Rawdon Glover says the target audience is people shopping at the upper echelon who prioritize design and interior quality. The firm’s managing director believes that for these buyers, the vehicle’s “powertrain is about 13th on the list.”
Then there’s the car’s styling, which has been dividing opinions since the eccentric concept debuted in late 2024. The subsequent production version doesn’t appear to tone things down much, and the lack of a rear window will only add to the controversy.
