The Karate Kid Trilogy Hits Netflix In Just Days

The martial arts movie trilogy that is arguably the most famous example of the genre still to date is set to become available on Netflix in a matter of just days. Over the years, the martial arts genre has provided some hits that remain dazzlingly famous to this day – and for good reason, given the sheer level of high-octane and mindboggling stunts that are present in this corner of the world of movies.

Thanks to the talents of iconic figures like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Donnie Yen, the martial arts genre has also featured many of the best action movies of all time, with series like the Ip Man movies or the Once Upon a Time in China films containing major feats and larger-than-life displays of fighting talent and strength.

With this in mind, it’s all the more exciting to note that what is arguably the most famous martial arts trilogy of all time is due to be viewable on Netflix in just over a week, meaning that the major movies can be enjoyed anew thanks to the streaming service, and opening the door for those who’ve never seen them despite their fame to finally give the films a well-deserved watch.

The Karate Kid Trilogy Is Coming To Netflix In 8 Days

The beginning of most months brings with it major changes and additions to Netflix’s movie catalog, and June 1st is set to continue this tradition, with The Karate Kid, The Karate Kid Part II, and The Karate Kid Part III all officially coming to the streaming service with the changing of the month.

It’s hard to overstate the significance of The Karate Kid trilogy’s fame or impact, given the films are still some of the most famous martial arts movies of all time to this day, and played a major role in popularizing the genre further than ever before when they released in the 80s. Even now, the movies are still a popular reference point for the world of film and the world of martial arts movies more specifically, which is the kind of legacy that is effectively the dream for most franchises.

Perhaps more crucially, The Karate Kid movies are to some degree a must-have for Netflix given the streaming service’s past intertwining with the wider franchise from 2018 onward, meaning the decision to have the films available on the platform also makes sense on another practical level.

Of course, The Karate Kid trilogy spawned a wider on-screen world for the franchise, including that of spinoff show Cobra Kai, which released on Netflix from 2018 to 2025. Given Netflix is thus inherently a platform that fans of the Karate Kid franchise are likely to be interested in, it seems all the more pertinent to have the original films that started it all on the streamer – doubly so given some will have watched Cobra Kai first without seeing the films, and thus will be more interested in seeing the original movies they build on.

Even without this backdrop in mind, The Karate Kid trilogy is effectively the kind of movie series that has provided the backbone of Netflix’s success over the years. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine a better streaming option than a famous classic film series with a family-friendly appeal that’s retained popularity as the decades have changed – and that has become all the more interesting in some ways as a result of the fact that a range of movies, shows, video games and even a broadway musical spawned from its initial results.

With all of this in mind, The Karate Kid becoming available on Netflix shortly is sure to be a mutually beneficial operation for the franchise and for the streaming service, since this allows audiences a convenient way to witness some of the most famous martial arts films of all time, and helps bolster Netflix’s viewing numbers via the addition of a series that has been watched and rewatched countless times since its initial debut.
