It appears that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is getting a new producer for an upcoming live-action film.
According to an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, Neal H. Moritz, the producer who is known for The Fast and the Furious, is reportedly in talks to helm the new film for Paramount and reboot the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. His production company, Original Films, co-founder, Toby Ascher, is expected to produce alongside him, too.
The newly reconstructed Paramount has been making major developments to the iconic franchise. One of the biggest changes came a few months ago when the studio scrapped Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Mutant Mayhem’s spinoff). It pulled the plug halfway through the project’s production and never looked back.
Christopher Yost, the showrunner of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, confirmed on Threads that the series was indeed canceled. He further elaborated, “The upcoming episodes of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will sadly be the last. Luckily, they’re our best episodes yet.”
Meanwhile, insiders claimed that The Last Ronin, which had been in production, was shut down. The film was an R-rated adaptation of the best-selling comic book series of the same name. Allegedly, Ilya Naishuller was in negotiations to helm the project. Unfortunately, those plans fell through as the studio’s new leadership wasn’t interested in making the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ first live-action movie in a decade a graphic, non-family-friendly film. However, another source stated that they would consider circling back and reconsidering in the future.
Despite all these cancellations and changes in plans, at least one project remains safe, at least for now. At the time of this article’s publication, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Jeff Rowe’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 is still scheduled to be released on September 17, 2027.
