Rebecca Ferguson’s Forgotten Sci-Fi Reboot Is an Unlikely Streaming Smash

It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what Rebecca Ferguson is best known for, considering she’s been in so many notable projects. Many are familiar with her work opposite Tom Cruise in the Mission: Impossible franchise, but she’s also blossomed into a star lately thanks to her role in the hit Apple TV sci-fi series, Silo. Over the years, Ferguson has also teamed up with other stars like Hugh Jackman for movies like Reminiscence and The Greatest Showman. However, in 2019, Ferguson teamed up with a pair of massive MCU stars for a reboot/sequel mashup of an iconic sci-fi franchise that’s finding a second life on streaming.

In 2019, Rebecca Ferguson starred opposite Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in Men in Black: International, the sequel to Will Smith’s sci-fi series of films with Tommy Lee Jones. Kumail Nanjiani and Rafe Spall also star in the 2019 Men in Black movie, which follows the secret spy organization as they try to tackle a mole giving away sensitive information. Men in Black: International was recently streaming on Starz in America, but it lost its streaming home at the end of February. While fans await a new streamer for the film, it has picked up steam on Apple TV VOD charts in several countries around the world.

Men in Black: International was harshly panned by critics, who rated the film a Rotten 23% on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. This also comes from over 300 reviews, so it’s not the result of a small sample size. It did find some redemption among audiences, but not enough for people to show up and make the film a financial hit. It grossed only $253 million against a $110 million budget, narrowly scraping past its break-even point.

When Does Rebecca Ferguson’s Next Movie Come Out?

Rebecca Ferguson’s next movie will be released in theaters on March 6 before it arrives on Netflix globally on March 20. She will star opposite Cillian Murphy in The Immortal Man, the long-gestating Peaky Blinders sequel film. Her latest movie comes in the form of Mercy, the controversial sci-fi thriller starring Chris Pratt that’s bombing at the box office. The film stars Ferguson as an AI judge who must deem whether a police officer, played by Pratt, killed his wife.

Watch Men in Black: International on VOD platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
