Far Cry TV show casts Steve Buscemi in mystery role

The new anthology TV series based on Ubisoft’s Far Cry video game franchise just landed another major star. FX announced Tuesday that Steve Buscemi (Fargo, Reservoir Dogs) has been added to the cast of Far Cry, joining previously confirmed actors Rob Mac (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield).

Buscemi’s role in Far Cry hasn’t been revealed, but the veteran actor is a promising addition to the FX series, which is coming from Mac and executive producer Noah Hawley, who created series like Fargo and Alien: Earth. The limited series will “retain Far Cry’s signature standalone storytelling format with each season set in a new setting following a new cast of characters,” FX said in a news release.

Far Cry will be available on FX and Hulu, and on Disney Plus internationally. FX announced its Far Cry television series in November 2025, but has not announced a release date.

“Getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” Mac said when Far Cry was announced. “Ubisoft has been remarkably generous, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created.”

“What I love about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology. Each game is a variation of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a variation on a theme,” said Hawley. “To create a big action show that can change from year to year, while always exploring the nature of humanity through this complex and chaotic lens, is a dream come true. I’m excited to partner with Rob and bring our shared irreverent, ambitious sensibility to the screen.”

The most recent Far Cry game released by Ubisoft was 2021’s Far Cry 6, which starred Giancarlo Esposito as antagonist Antón. As a series, Far Cry is known for embracing violence and madness with equal glee, all while telling captivating, politically driven stories.

Buscemi has racked up dozens of major acting credits over his 40-year career. In addition to roles in films like Reservoir Dogs, Fargo, and The Big Lebowski, Buscemi has had a standout television career, appearing in The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, and 30 Rock. He most recently starred in the second season of the Netflix series Wednesday and will appear this fall in Wild Horse Nine, directed by Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, The Banshees of Inisherin).
