The UniFi 5G Backup (model U5G-US or U5G-EU, depending on the market), which Ubiquiti announced and made available today, is a stripped-down version of the UniFi 5G Max (U5G-Max): it’s compact, less capable, and significantly more affordable. The new PoE-powered add-on modem is not designed to deliver top 5G speeds, but to provide a reliable, low-cost cellular connection. Here’s the bottom line: If you have a network hosted by a UniFi Cloud Gateway and need a 5G cellular model as a backup broadband source, the U5G is an easy recommendation for its friendly $99 price tag and reliable real-world performance. “These strategic quantum technology investments will build on our domestic industry, creating thousands of high-paying American jobs while advancing American quantum capabilities,” he added. The move is the latest in a series of attempts by the Trump administration to intervene in the market, offering grants to companies in strategic sectors, such as semiconductors and critical minerals, in exchange for equity stakes. Last year, the commerce department took a 10 percent stake in Intel, by converting $2.2 billion in grants under the Joe Biden-era Chips Act as well as $8.9 billion in federal grants that had been awarded but not yet…
Following the initial tease of its Thus AI chip, Anker announced the first earbuds with the component during its Anker Day event. The Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro and Liberty 5 Pro Max both utilize the chip for what the company calls Whisper Clear voice performance. Of course, the usual earbud features are here — active noise cancellation (ANC), voice controls and personalized sound — but there are some unique tools available on these models as well. Those include an AI Note-Taker on the Liberty 5 Pro Max and touchscreen charging cases for both. Let’s start with what the Thus chip…

Here’s the good news: Omni, which was unveiled this week at Google I/O 2026, is not fast. Now the bad news: its output is insanely good. It’ll be hard to tell what’s hand-crafted and what’s been generated by the multi-talented Gemini Omni.I guess that’s where SynthID comes in. It’s now part of the Gemini app and can assist in image, audio, and video verification.”You can learn about an image’s origin by using Search features like Lens, AI Mode and Circle to Search, as well as Gemini in Chrome. Just ask, ‘Is this made with AI?’ or ‘Is this AI generated?'”…
Google on Wednesday published exploit code for an unfixed vulnerability in its Chromium browser codebase that threatens millions of people using Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and virtually all other Chromium-based browsers. The proof-of-concept code exploits the Browser Fetch programming interface, a standard that allows long videos and other large files to be downloaded in the background. An attacker can use the exploit to create a connection for monitoring some aspects of a user’s browser usage and as a proxy for viewing sites and launching denial-of-service attacks. Depending on the browser, the connections either reopen or remain open even after it or…
They’re direct shots at NVIDIA’s AI systems AMD AMD’s big pitch for 2026 seems to be: “Who needs cloud AI processing when you can do it all locally?” At CES this year, the company unveiled its Ryzen AI Halo PC, a Mac Mini-sized system that can crank out AI work. Today, AMD announced that it will start at $3,999 with Ryzen AI Max 300 CPUs, and we can also look forward to a future model with new Ryzen AI Max 400 chips, as well. Preorders start in June. While pricey, AMD positions the Halo as a…
Google’s shoving more AI into its software and devices. Meet Gemini Spark, the new AI agent that’s like a 24/7 personal assistant. Google debuted the tool on Tuesday at its Google I/O developer conference. We saw a demo of Gemini Spark in action, handling multistep tasks, like planning a block party. Gemini Spark counted RSVPs, followed up with those who hadn’t and created an RSVP tracker that automatically updates when new responses come in via Gmail. Gemini Spark will be available to some testers this week and available in Beta for Google AI Ultra subscribers next week. There are also plans for…
