Here’s some good news for fans of Ubiquiti’s NAS approach: The company today released the latest UniFi Drive 4 app, which powers all of its UNAS servers. Unlike other NAS servers on the market that have their own full-scale Linux-based operating system, Ubiquit’s UNAS is the UniFi Drive app running on the company’s UniFi OS. As a result, each UNAS server is a single-app UniFi console that focuses primarily on storage, without additional standalone features such as a media streaming server or a surveillance system, which, by the way, is another UniFi app called Protect. That said, UniFi Drive 4…
Last May, law enforcement authorities around the world scored a key win when they hobbled the infrastructure of Lumma, an infostealer that infected nearly 395,000 Windows computers over just a two-month span leading up to the international operation. Researchers said Wednesday that Lumma is once again “back at scale” in hard-to-detect attacks that pilfer credentials and sensitive files. Lumma, also known as Lumma Stealer, first appeared in Russian-speaking cybercrime forums in 2022. Its cloud-based malware-as-a-service model provided a sprawling infrastructure of domains for hosting lure sites offering free cracked software, games, and pirated movies, as well as command-and-control channels and…
ExpressVPN is back on sale again, and its two-year plans are up to 81 percent off right now. You can get the Advanced tier for $88 for 28 months. This is marked down from the $392 that this time frame normally costs. On a per-month basis, it works out to roughly $3.14 for the promo period. We’ve consistently liked ExpressVPN because it’s fast, easy to use and widely available across a large global server network. In fact, it’s our current pick for best premium VPN. One of the biggest drawbacks has always been its high cost, and this deal temporarily solves…
A few years ago, I developed some pain on the top right side of my right foot that wouldn’t go away, so I went to a podiatrist. While he said it was nothing serious, he suggested I get a pair of Oofos recovery slides and recommended not only wearing them instead of my shoes as much as possible but also wearing them around the house instead of going barefoot. “All these people working from home don’t realize your feet need more support than you think, especially as you get older,” he told me. “It was a big problem during the…

Or Lenchner, the CEO of Bright Data, one of the world’s largest web-scraping firms, says that his company’s bots do not collect nonpublic information. Bright Data was previously sued by Meta and X for allegedly improperly scraping content from their platforms. (Meta later dropped its suit, and a federal judge in California dismissed the case brought by X.) Karolis Stasiulevičiu, a spokesperson for another cited company, ScrapingBee, told WIRED: “ScrapingBee operates on one of the Internet’s core principles: that the open web is meant to be accessible. Public web pages are, by design, readable by both humans and machines.” Oxylabs,…
Meta has been going all in on AI, whether people want it or not, and now it’s bringing more features in that vein to Facebook. The network’s latest move is to let people use Meta AI to animate their profile photos. Because what better way to express your individuality than to use a pre-canned AI-generated animation on your own face?Meta AI is also coming for your Facebook Stories and Memories. The network’s Restyle lets you use gen-AI to change up the aesthetic of your posts. You can once again use pre-canned stylings or give the AI assistant your own prompt. In…
Pros Very impressive integrated GPU Strong, sustainable performance Compact footprint Cons Less upgradeable than most desktop PCs Kind of cheap-feeling case The Framework Desktop is an interesting machine. It offers surprising performance on all fronts with even more surprising sustain for such a small, 4.5-liter footprint. The price tag starts to make sense when considering both those aspects. However, the Desktop desktop also misses something. It’s partly a pre-built Mini-ITX PC, lacking not only some of the user upgradability that desktop PCs in general, and Framework specifically, are known for. Integrating the CPU, GPU, NPU and memory onto one package…
