Few laptops have enjoyed the staying power of the MacBook Air M1. Six years ago, I called it “an astonishing breakthrough.” It was the first Mac to feature Apple Silicon and the last Air to wear that iconic wedge design. As recently as last year, people were still buying this system for roughly $699 at Walmart. As it finally shifts into refurb-only availability, the MacBook Air M1 remains the affordable Mac to beat, and now, with the MacBook Neo, that iconic Mac has met its match.Like that system before it, the MacBook Neo breaks new ground for Apple. Today, Synology quietly made its new BeeCamera feature available on its BeeStation Plus network-attached storage (NAS) server via a manual upgrade to the latest BeeStation OS (version 1.5-65918). (The company says the official release of the feature will come by the end of this month, at which point the new version will be available for in-app or auto update.) As the name suggests, this feature adds camera-based surveillance capability to the consumer-friendly NAS server, similar to the Surveillance Station package available on Synology’s standard DiskStation NAS servers. I tried BeeCamera for a couple of weeks with a CC400W camera, and it proved a useful,…

The attack began in the early hours of Thursday. I used to tell people to skip Wi-Fi 7 routers because they were much more expensive than Wi-Fi 6 or 6E. But after testing and evaluating 34 routers at our CNET Lab, I’ve changed my mind. I saw just how much more speed you can get for the price of a Wi-Fi 7 router.A Wi-Fi 7 upgrade is a worthwhile investment for future-proofing your home network, especially when our CNET survey found that 86% of Americans already experience Wi-Fi drops. Your home’s Wi-Fi router is the gateway to the internet and to your devices. It affects every aspect of your…

Alexa+ launches in the UK today, complete with authentic British touches like calling you “mate” in a posh female accent — a combination that, as any actual British person knows, rarely exists in the wild. But quirks aside, Alexa+ sounds like exactly what voice assistants were always supposed to become. Instead of shouting carefully phrased commands and hoping it doesn’t set a timer when you ask it to play Ride on Time, it can understand context, remember your preferences, and help manage your day. With the right hardware it can even turn your lights on and run your central heating.
