Since late 2025, Broadcom has proven itself a strong advocate for the upcoming Wi-Fi 8, with multiple modular chip releases designed to power routers, access points, clients, and gateways.

Today, the chip maker continues that trend by releasing a trio of new dual-band Wi-Fi 8 system-on-chips (SoCs), including the BCM6772, BCM6774, and BCM6776, as part of the BCM677x family.

Of the three, the BCM6776 is slated to be part of something that offers more than just wired Ethernet and Wi-Fi.

Dong’s note: This piece has been updated since its initial publication to clarify that the BCM6776 SoC is selected for an FWA reference platform that includes Samsung’s 5G modem.

    Broadcom BCM677x family: All-in-one integreted Wi-Fi 8 platforms

As SoCs, the new Wi-Fi 8 chips are highly integrated devices designed for a more streamlined approach, consolidating the application processor, network processor, 2.4 GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi 8 radios, and Multi-Gig Ethernet onto a single die.

According to Broadcom, the integration within these new SoCs is made for two primary real-world applications:

    • High-Performance Mesh Systems: By reducing the physical component count and heat signature, these SoCs enable manufacturers to design smaller, aesthetically pleasing mesh nodes that can be placed anywhere in the home without sacrificing best-in-class Wi-Fi performance.
    • Multi-Gigabit Ethernet Routers: With native support for multi-gigabit WAN and LAN interfaces, these chips serve as the ideal engine for routers designed to handle fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) speeds, ensuring the wireless link never becomes a bottleneck for the wired broadband network.

The point is that with these new dual-band Wi-Fi 8 SoCs, OEM manufacturers won’t need to use multiple chips to build low-cost consumer-grade routers and access points that support the latest Wi-Fi standard, while also having the option to add features such as tri-band support.

Broadcom says each chip in the BCM677x family features on-chip 2.4GHz power amplifiers (iPAs) and 3rd-generation digital pre-distortion (DPD) technology, which significantly reduces the total bill of materials (BOM) and enables lower power consumption in the 5-GHz band.

Additionally, they all sport a high-performance quad-core CPU and a dedicated Network Processing Engine to handle networking tasks, enabling efficient operation in demanding home environments.

These chips differ from one another in their intended roles and, hence, hardware specifications:

    • BCM6772: The core foundation for mass-market Ethernet routers, extenders, and repeaters.
      • Integrated 2×2 2.4-GHz and 2×2 5-GHz radios
      • Versatile memory controller (DDR4 & DDR5)
      • Ultra-compact 15×15 mm FCBGA package
    • BCM6774: Optimized for high-volume Ethernet routers and extenders
      • Integrated 2×2 2.4-GHz and 4×4 5-GHz radios
      • Versatile memory controller (DDR4 and DDR5)
      • Ultra-compact 15×15 mm FCBGA package
    • BCM6776: Premium Ethernet routers and extenders with tri-band option when paired with the top-tier BCM6718 chip.
      • Integrated 2×2 2.4-GHz and 4×4 5-GHz radios
      • Dual PCIe Gen3 controllers
      • Versatile memory controller (DDR4, DDR5 LPDDR4, and LPDDR5)
      • Compact 19×19 mm FCBGA package

Broadcom BCM6776: First Wi-Fi 8 SoC to be part of a 5G cellular integrated FWA platform

In partnership with Samsung, Broadcom also announced today a broadband-optimized reference platform for the global fixed wireless access (FWA) market by integrating its BCM6776 SoC above with Samsung’s new B1320 5G cellular modem.

The Samsung B1320 is a new, highly integrated 5G chip capable of downlink speeds up to 3.43 Gbps and uplink speeds up to 1.17 Gbps. It features the following:

    • 3GPP Release 17
    • 4Rx/2Tx radio chains with Power Class 1.5 Support (TDD bands)
    • LPDDR4x / LPDDR5x Support
    • 1.6-GHz quad-core ARM A55 CPU
    • 5-Gbps USXGMII, PCIe Gen 3, USB 2.0
    • Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)
    • Radio operating over Non-Terrestrial Networks (NR-NTN) and Narrowband Non-Terrestrial Networks (NB-NTN) with n255 and n256 (L- and S-bands).

This new FWA platform unifies 5G NR (3GPP Release 17) connectivity with the latest Wi-Fi standard, allowing users to have an all-in-one Wi-Fi 8 router or gateway with a built-in 5G connectivity, either as a backup or as the primary Internet connection, similar to some existing Wi-Fi 7 routers, such as the UniFi Dream Router 5G Max.

    Availability

Broadcom says it is currently sampling the BCM677x family to its early access partners and customers, including global carrier trials and OEM sampling of the Samsung B1320 / Broadcom BCM6776 FWA platform. As with other Broadcom Wi-Fi 8 chips, you can expect consumer-grade products from this family by the end of 2027 or early 2028.
