Task’s Finale Must Finally Introduce Robbie’s Mysterious Wife Karen

Warning! Spoilers for Task episode 6 ahead!

There’s only one episode left in HBO’s Task, which means it’s time for the crime thriller series to introduce a missing character. The upcoming finale will follow up on the devastating events of episode 6, which involved the deaths of Lizzie and Robbie, as well as Tom’s discovery that Grasso is the Dark Hearts’ informant. It’s bound to be exciting, but we still need some big answers about Robbie’s family.

The ending of Task episode 6 saw Maeve receive a bag of cash from Robbie’s connection. This came with the revelation that it hadn’t been Robbie’s plan to sell the stolen Fentanyl himself. Instead, he had things all set up to get back at the Dark Hearts while ensuring his family is taken care of, even if he wasn’t alive to see it. Robbie achieved as much, but what will this mean for his wife?

It was established early on in Task that Robbie had recently been left by his wife, Karen. Their marriage was already falling apart before Billie’s death, as we saw in the flashback scene. However, when Robbie’s brother was murdered, Karen disappeared, leaving her husband and children behind. No one in Task had any idea where she went.

Now that Robbie is dead, Karen may re-enter the picture. Task episode 7 may feature a funeral for Robbie, and it would make sense that Karen would make an appearance. She may even become determined to reclaim custody of her children.

Karen’s reappearance would also have to come with some answers about what happened between her and Robbie and why she left. There have been theories that Karen had some involvement with the Dark Hearts—perhaps even Jayson. This would bring even further impact to Robbie’s sacrifice in and revenge in Task.

Will Maeve End Up Raising Robbie & Karen’s Kids?

The most significant aspect of Task that would come under question if Karen returned is how that would impact Maeve and the kids. Following Robbie’s death, it’s clear that Maeve will be responsible for raising his kids. She’s essentially been doing this anyway, and she’s very good at it. Still, Maeve is a young woman whose prospects have been diminished by this massive responsibility.

If Karen shows up hoping to reclaim custody of her children, it would mean a fork in the road for Maeve. On one hand, she could walk away from Robbie’s family and finally live a life of her own (maybe with a good handful of cash for her troubles). On the other hand, she could choose to do what is likely best for those kids and stick around. Only Task‘s finale can say for certain.
