When Will The New Alfa Romeo Giulia And Stelvio Debut?

It only took one slide to spark a firestorm: Alfa Romeo appeared to confirm that its future lineup would consist solely of a compact SUV, seemingly erasing the next Giulia and Stelvio in a single stroke. But that image didn’t tell the whole story.

Following the presentation of its FaSTLAne 2030 strategy, the company released a statement clarifying what’s actually next—and filling in several important gaps. The key takeaway? The next Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio are still on the way. Just not immediately.

    Compacts Take Priority

The slide shown at Stellantis’ Investor Day highlighted just two upcoming products: a compact SUV and a performance car. That was enough to fuel speculation, but Alfa Romeo later issued a statement clarifying its future roadmap, confirming that a new compact model is also in the works.

‘In continuity with icons like the 147 and Giulietta, it will combine innovation with the brand’s distinctive DNA.’

That strongly suggests the Giulietta name could return. Either way, Alfa Romeo’s future lineup now looks broader than many expected—or had been led to believe. But the real question remains: what’s happening with the Giulia and Stelvio?

    According to the statement:

‘Alfa Romeo is studying solutions to continue competing in the D-segment with new interpretations of the current range made up of the Giulia and Stelvio, staying true to its performance-oriented DNA while adapting to the evolution of the market. The brand will leverage flexible platforms to progressively introduce multi-energy solutions, including hybrid and electric powertrains. More details will be communicated at a later stage.’

In simple terms, the next-generation Giulia and Stelvio haven’t been canceled. Instead, Alfa Romeo is taking more time to determine the best strategy for returning to the core of the segment, where competition includes models like the Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW 3 Series.

Both models are still expected to offer multiple powertrain options—including hybrid and fully electric versions—and the STLA Large platform remains a strong possibility. So there’s no need for obituaries just yet. Alfa Romeo appears determined to launch these models only when there’s a perfect mix of design, technology, and engineering.

    Alfa Romeo’s Upcoming Lineup

The statement also reaffirmed Alfa Romeo’s commitment to the Junior SUV. The company said:

‘[The Junior] will be updated over the course of its life cycle and will continue to compete in the B-SUV segment, targeting a young and dynamic audience and serving as a natural entry point into the Alfa Romeo world with a product at the top of the category.’

As mentioned earlier, a more traditional compact model is also on the horizon—an unexpected move that could position Alfa Romeo against future rivals such as the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series, and Mercedes-Benz A-Class. It may also use a multi-energy platform like STLA One to support a variety of powertrains.

And finally, there’s the halo model: a sports car developed under the BottegaFuoriserie label. Because, while practicality still matters, Alfa Romeo knows the importance of making people dream.

Motor1’s Take: It’s good to know that new versions of the Giulia and Stelvio are both on the horizon, even if they aren’t happening anytime soon.
