Darkly Catchy Indie-Emo with Big Hooks and Glasgow Bite

Junior VP are Ross, Steven, and Andy — a Glasgow trio drawing inspiration from US college rock and indie/emo traditions. Their name nods to the distinctly American title “Junior Vice President,” a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the bands that shaped their sound.

Blending pop hooks with gnarly guitar textures and dynamic arrangements, Junior VP strike a balance between accessibility and edge. The result feels nostalgic without being derivative — broad in appeal yet far from safe.

Since first releasing music in December 2025, they’ve quickly built momentum with widespread independent radio play, BBC Introducing Scotland airtime, a growing fanbase, and a shortlist spot for Kerrang Radio’s The Deal. With their debut album Do You Feel the Same? scheduled for early 2027, the band’s trajectory is clearly upward.

“Joy” leans into a darker, more textured side of the band’s indie-emo palette. Beneath its instantly memorable chorus lies a layered, emotionally charged arrangement that shifts between restraint and release.

The guitars bite where they need to, while melodic hooks anchor the track in singalong territory. There’s tension in the delivery — a push between optimism and unease — giving “Joy” its depth. It’s catchy, but not carefree.

    Why it is trending

Following the high-energy single “Easy Come, Easy Go,” “Joy” showcases the band’s range and solidifies them as more than just another indie-rock hopeful.

With increasing radio support and a reputation building ahead of their debut album, Junior VP are gaining traction in both Scottish and wider UK alternative circles. As guitar-driven emo and college rock continue to resonate with a new generation, “Joy” positions them firmly as a band to watch — just maybe not to run your business.
