People ask a lot on the internet about who owns Range Rover and Land Rover. Land Rover is involved in the manufacturing of Range Rover models.

History runs from the 1970s, when British Leyland Motors LTD made the Range Rover cars, till 1978, when the SUV division stopped naming ititself Landover.

The timeline began in 1948 in Warwickshire, England, where the Rover name started being used and where the Land Rover was developed under Rover, ending in 1967.

From 1967 to 1988, Land Rover became part of the state-owned British British Leyland Motor Corporation. From 1988 to 1994, British Leyland Motors broke up, and British Aerospace bought the Rover Group, including the Land Rover.

From 1994 to 2000, BMW acquired the ownership of the Rover Group, gaining control of Land Rover, and developed models including the Freelander and second-generation Range Rover.

From 2000 to 2008, Ford Motor Company bought Land Rover from BMW, and from 2008 to now, Tata Motors bought Jaguar and Land Rover, merging them into Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) by 2013. In 2023 JLR recognized its brand strategy of treating Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, and Jaguar as distinct houses of brands.
