Since the beginning of 2025, Ubiqiuti’s UniFi has proven to be one of the best and most versatile approaches to home networking, while remaining one of the most advanced players in the enterprise space.

That approach has now just gotten even more versatile as Ubiquiti just unveiled three devices to enable 5G cellular connection in your network, including one already hosted by an existing non-cellular UniFi Cloud Gateway (a.k.a UniFi “router”).

    Let’s dig in!

UniFi 5G Options: Three options for all situations

The three new 5G-enabled devices include the UniFi 5G Max (model U5G-Max), UniFi 5G Max Outdoor (U5G-Max-Outdoor), and Dream Router 5G Max (UDR-Max-5G).

Of them, the UniFi 5G Max is available today, so let’s start with it.

UniFi 5G Max: 5G option for any UniFi network

    In a nutshell, the U5G-Max is a PoE-powered 5G modem. It’s a compact, palm-sized device that comes with a built-in cellular modem.

The UniFi 5G Max is unlocked and features dual-SIM, allowing you to use two nano SIMs or one with another eSIM. Ubiquiti says it supports both 5G and 4G with download speeds up to 2.4Gbps and 1.4Gbps, respectively.

The modem connects to an existing network via its Multi-Gig 2.5Gbps PoE-in. Connect this port to a UniFi network, preferably one with a PoE switch, and it’ll act as a virtual WAN, working alongside the existing WAN connection as a dual-WAN for backup or load balancing.

The UniFi 5G Max comes with a 1.3″ square touchscreen on top for easy management, but it can be managed via the host UniFi Network Console, just like any other UniFi device. One thing to note about the U5G-Max is that it’s an indoor unit that comes with built-in cellular antennas. As a result, its cell reception might not be ideal.

That brings us to the UniFi 5G Max Outdoor.

UniFi 5G Max Outdoor: Uncompromising cell reception

As the name suggests, the UniFi 5G Max Outdoor is basically the outdoor version of the UniFi 5G Max. It has the same specs but is designed for outdoor mounting. With a long network cable, you can place it anywhere out in the open to get the best possible cell signals.

Ubiquiti says the UniFi 5G Max Outdoor has an IP67 rating for ruggedness, meaning it can withstand all sorts of weather, including submersion. In return, it no longer has a touchscreen.

The table below shows the detailed hardware specs of the two UniFi 5G cellular add-on modems.

    Dream Router 5G Max: Essentially the UDR7 plus a built-in 5G modem

The last and likely most exciting device is the Dream Router 5G Max. As you might guess from the name, it’s a Dream Router, similar to the Dream Router 7, but now with a built-in 5G modem. In fact, other than the cellular portion, the two share the same hardware specs.

Like the UDR7, the UDR-Max-5G is a UniFi Network console that can do much more than a router. Apart from the Network application, it can also run Protect (with its built-in UNVR for a surveillance system) and other apps. Additionally, it’ll be able to handle a 5G WAN connection—which shares the same dual-SIM specs as the UniFi 5G Max above— either as the only WAN connection or as a secondary alongside the WAN connection on its WAN port.

Speaking of ports, the Dream Router 5G Max comes with a 10Gbps SFP+ WAN port (which can be converted to an RJ45 port with an adapter) and four 2.5Gbps Multi-Gig ports.

Physically, the new router looks like a white version of AmpliFi Alien that came out over three years ago, with a large 4.7″ touch screen on the front. The table below shows the UniFi Dream Router 5G Max compared to the UDR7.

    Availability and pricing

Ubiquiti says the UniFi 5G Max is available today and costs $399. The UniFi 5G Max Outdoor and Dream Router 5G Max are slated to arrive in January and February 2026 and will cost $399 and $499, respectively.
