Trail Rated EV With 650 HP

The 2026 Jeep Recon is finally here. The automaker first announced the electric off-road SUV in 2022, but with production starting sometime early next year, Jeep is ready to release the details on the new Recon, which will launch in its Moab trim first.

The Recon has two electric motors that make a combined 650 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque, propelling the SUV to 60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds. It has four-wheel drive and comes with the coveted Trail Rated badge.

The rear electric motor has a 15:1 final drive ratio for improved power delivery and an electric locking differential, while the front motor has an 11:1 final drive ratio and an open diff. The Selec-Terrain management system in the Moab trim offers five drive modes, including a dedicated Rock mode.

The Recon is about five inches longer than the four-door Wrangler but has a six-inch shorter wheelbase. The EV, which weighs 6,112 pounds, is also wider, but the two are nearly identical in height. The Wrangler also offers a bit more cargo room.

The Moab’s 33-inch tires help provide 9.1 inches of ground clearance with a 33.8-degree approach, a 33.1-degree departure, and a 23.3-degree breakover angle. Jeep says it calibrated the throttle to “deliver torque in a controlled and precise manner for a satisfying off-road driving experience.”

The Recon rides on the STLA Large platform that underpins the Dodge Charger Daytona EV and Jeep Wagoneer S. The 100.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack provides up to 250 miles of range. Top speed is 112 mph.

While there might not be a combustion engine under the hood, Jeep’s seven-slot grille remains, with each one illuminated. U-shaped LED daytime running lights frame the LED headlights.

The front bumper, which features two red recovery hooks, protrudes outward to protect the LED-packed face and the hardware behind the front fascia. The rear features Wrangler-inspired LED taillights, a swing gate, and a full-size spare tire carrier.

Like the Wrangler, you can remove the doors, which feature modular cargo panels you can change out. You’ll also be able to remove the swing gate glass and rear quarter windows. A dual-pane sunroof is standard, but Jeep offers the optional Sky One-Touch Power Top for open-top motoring.

Inside, the Recon features a pair of vertically oriented screens—a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.5-inch center infotainment screen running Uconnect 5. The Recon lacks buttons, opting for digital HVAC controls. The Recon comes with a premium Alpine sound system with speakers under the seat.

With the second-row seats folded down, the Recon offers up to 65.9 cubic feet of cargo space. Jeep designed the front trunk, with 3.0 cubic feet of cargo space, to fit a carry-on suitcase.

Jeep will begin building the Recon at its Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico early next year, with the SUV going on sale in the United States and Canada first, followed by a global rollout. Jeep will announce pricing closer to its on-sale date.
