The Rivian R2 officially launches with a price under $50,000, 345 miles of range

Electric adventure is officially getting more affordable with Rivian’s full pricing and trim announcement for the much awaited R2 compact SUV. The mid-size electric SUV packs Rivian’s luxurious yet utilitarian aesthetics into a smaller frame — and rides on an entirely new vehicle platform designed to capture a wider audience. The brand’s new SUV will begin deliveries by Spring 2026.

Rivian has planned out detailed trim releases for the R2 starting with Performance first (only available in Launch Package configuration starting at $57,990), followed by Premium in late 2026 starting at $53,990. In the first half of 2027, Standard hits the scene starting at just $48,490 with a Rivian-estimated range of up to 345 miles. Lastly, Rivian hinted at another affordable base model that will launch in late 2027 with a starting price around $45,000.

Diminutive in size compared to its bigger brother R1, the R2 rides on a shortened wheelbase and tips the scales at nearly 2,000 pounds less than the R1. Performance packs dual motors with a hearty 656 horsepower, getting you from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. Premium gives customers 450 horsepower, while Standard offers a respectable 350 horsepower with a single motor. All trims come standard with native NACS charge port integration which not only allows Rivian drivers access to over 25,000 Tesla Superchargers across the US, but also all other charging networks with the use of standard adapters. Planning on going on a road trip? No problem.

Stretching 90.1 cubic feet of total space across the R2’s cabin, passengers will find ample room for gear with options like fold-flat seats, dual glove boxes, and a front trunk big enough to stash a carry-on suitcase. Available on both Premium and Performance trims, the R2 also sports a unique rear drop glass window that tunnels into the SUV’s liftgate. Lowered all the way, passengers can drive with the window off for an open-air experience or store tall cargo like skateboards and surfboards upright.

For those looking to venture off-road, the R2 still packs plenty of adventurous traits with up to 9.6 inches of ground clearance and an adaptive semi-active suspension system. Rivian’s debut mid-size SUV will come in three new exterior colors including Catalina Cove (color-shifting), Esker Silver, and Half Moon Grey. As for the inside, expect to see minimalist features with new interior color schemes like Black Crater and Coastal Cloud, along with upcycled Birch wood finishes and organic fabrics.

Priced starting at $48,490, the R2 gives drivers a compelling argument to ditch the family minivan or passenger sedan. The all-new SUV will make its debut at Rivian Roadhouse during SXSW in March 2026. Pre-orders are now live on Rivian’s website. Deposit is fully refundable.
