Netflix’s 6-Part Answer to ‘The Night Manager’ Dominates ‘Bridgerton’ In Blockbuster Streaming Debut

With Tehran holding strong on the Apple TV charts, Ponies doing well on Peacock, and The Night Manager dominating Prime Video’s viewership, it’s Netflix’s turn to present its own espionage offering. Netflix threw its hat into the ring with perhaps the most low-key title of them all — its contender is the only one of this bunch that isn’t set in English. The show has emerged as more successful than anyone would have imagined; not only has it claimed the number one spot on the global Netflix rankings, it has done so by overtaking major returning series such as Bridgerton and The Lincoln Lawyer. Both those shows returned only recently, and have historically been major draws for Netflix. As things stand, however, the streamer might have a massive new hit on its hands.

According to FlixPatrol, the latest season of Bridgerton slipped to the number two spot on the global charts this week after topping the leaderboard for a few days. The Lincoln Lawyer, on the other hand, dropped to the third spot. Over on the Prime Video charts, The Night Manager claimed the fourth spot on February 12; the show, starring Tom Hiddleston, returned after a decade-long gap last month. In Apple’s global rankings, Tehran came third, while the streamer’s longest-running hit, Slow Horses, finished ninth on February 12.

Here’s the New Spy Show that’s Dominating Netflix’s Global Charts

Espionage shows have always done well with audiences at home, with numerous streaming platforms spending heavily on producing potential gold mines for themselves. And now, Netflix is looking at a winner, with the German-language series Unfamiliar topping the streamer’s charts worldwide, and slowly sneaking up the rankings domestically. The six-episode show follows a married spy couple whose covers are blown while running a safe house in Berlin. Unfamiliar stars Felix Kramer and Susanne Wolff, and doesn’t yet have an official critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes despite its early success. The show has been dominating globally, ranking first in countries such as Argentina, Croatia, and Ukraine, among dozens of others. Somewhat surprisingly, however, it hasn’t yet claimed the number one spot on the German charts, where Bridgerton continues to be the audience’s first choice. You can watch Unfamiliar on Netflix. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
