Infiniti QX80 Red Sport: High-Performance Trim Coming?

    • Infiniti could launch a hotter QX80 variant with 600 horsepower.
    • It could be a ‘first step’ toward a model inspired by the 650-horsepower QX80 Track Spec.
    • The high-performance QX80 will allegedly go on sale next spring.

Over the last few years, Infiniti has downsized its portfolio, killing off many of its cars to focus heavily on crossovers and SUVs. In 2024, the company unveiled the new QX80, which could soon spawn a high-performance version.

Brian Maragno, the luxury brand’s product marketing director, told Automotive News that this new variant would be a “first step” toward offering a version of the SUV that is inspired by the QX80 Track Spec concept. This new QX80 variant will offer “an additional level of performance” but not go “all the way.”

The hotter QX80 will allegedly make 600 horsepower and go on sale next spring, according to “a person briefed on the plan” who spoke with the publication. It could have 24-inch wheels, S badging, and large red brake calipers. Maragno told AN that the changes would be “noticeable but not drastic.”

The regular QX80 packs a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 450 hp and 515 pound-feet of torque. The hotter QX80 could arrive wearing the Red Sport badge, while commanding a 10-percent price premium over the regular model.

The 2026 QX80 starts at $85,940 (including destination), and an extra 10 percent would bump that to about $95,000. Infiniti allegedly plans to produce just 600 examples of the hotter QX80.

Motor1’s Take: If Infiniti is serious about competing with Mercedes-AMG and BMW M, it will need to offer a proper line of high-performance cars. A 600-horsepower QX80 is a great first start, but we are most excited to see where this leads.
