Ford has announced Fadi Mawal as the company’s new president and CEO in Australia.

In a true story of working his way from the bottom, Mr Mawal began as a forklift operator for Ford in the early 1990s – working at a parts and service warehouse in Melbourne – before moving across to work in the company’s finance department.

For the past three years, he has served as chief financial officer for Ford International Markets Group at the company’s regional headquarters in Thailand. Prior to that, Mr Mawal worked for four years as CFO for Ford Australia and New Zealand.

Mr Mawal takes over the top job from Andrew Birkic, who has worked as Ford Australia’s boss for the past five years – and was directly responsible for the Ford Ranger Super Duty.

Mr Birkic has been promoted to vice president of sales and service at Ford International Markets Group.

“I am thrilled to welcome Fadi to the role of president and CEO [of] Australia and New Zealand,” said Jeff Marentic, president of Ford International Markets Group.

“His breadth of experience in leadership roles across the business positions him exceptionally well for this new challenge.

“I also want to acknowledge Andrew in his new expanded role and look forward to collaborating with both of them to drive strong results for Australia and the region.”
