Spotty Wi-Fi can make even simple tasks feel harder than they should. If you’ve ever had a video call freeze in one room or watched a stream buffer in another, a mesh Wi-Fi system can fix those frustrations. Instead of relying on a single router tucked in a corner, a mesh setup uses multiple units that work together to spread a strong, consistent signal throughout your home.Modern mesh systems are built for busy households. They keep dozens of devices connected at once, manage traffic intelligently and often include helpful app features that make troubleshooting or adjusting settings much easier. Many…

Those looking for a viable network-attached storage (NAS) solution for on-the-go use often turn to a travel router with a built-in NAS feature. And while that kind of works for most cases with simple needs, the performance and features are often less than ideal. We now have a real alternative. StationPC, a subsidiary of T-Chip Group, a Chinese company known for its “Firefly” series of open-source hardware, today announced the availability of its PocketCloud, a palm-sized, battery-operated, NAS server that can, among other things, deliver real NAS performance and versatility. The PocketCloud is a compact battery-operated NAS server made for…
“We acknowledge the European Commission’s statement,” said Meta. “Personalized ads are vital for Europe’s economy.” The investigation took place under the EU’s landmark Digital Markets Act, which is designed to tackle the power of Big Tech giants and is among the bloc’s tech regulations that have drawn fierce pushback from the Trump administration. The announcement comes only days after Brussels launched an antitrust investigation into Meta over its new policy on artificial intelligence providers’ access to WhatsApp—a case that underscores the commission’s readiness to use its powers to challenge Big Tech. That upcoming European probe follows the launch of recent…

And the US TP-Link router ban saga continues. Yesterday, Bloomberg reported that “the US Federal Trade Commission is examining whether TP-Link Systems Inc., a California-based wireless router maker, may have deceived consumers by allegedly concealing its connections to China since its restructuring last year.” And with that, we’re back to the original question of whether or not TP-Link is a Chinese company. On this front, TP-Link has told me on numerous occasions that it’s now a US entity. In fact, during CES 2025, multiple TP-Link representatives emphasized to me that its routers were manufactured in Vietnam (my country of origin) by pointing…
A sprawling infrastructure that has been bilking unsuspecting people through fraudulent gambling websites for 14 years is likely a dual operation run by a nation-state-sponsored group that is targeting government and private-industry organizations in the US and Europe, researchers said Wednesday. Researchers have previously tracked smaller pieces of the enormous infrastructure. Last month, security firm Sucuri reported that the operation seeks out and compromises poorly configured websites running the WordPress CMS. Imperva in January said the attackers also scan for and exploit web apps built with the PHP programming language that have existing webshells or vulnerabilities. Once the weaknesses are…
