The Synology DiskStation DS925+ network-attached storage (NAS) server, first available in the US on June 4, 2025, is more than just an intended incremental upgrade to the previous DS923+. It has gone through big changes in a matter of months, with the latest and most significant being the Synology’s DSM 7.3 release. Overall, I’d say it’s not a clear upgrade to the previous version, though it remains a significant hardware release in the history of Synology’s Plus (+) server lineup. This server marks a near-sighted, and therefore fortunately short-lived, period in which Synology wanted to force its own internal drive on…
Discord says that hackers made off with images of 70,000 users’ government IDs that they were required to provide in order to use the site. Like an increasing number of sites, Discord requires certain users to provide a photo or scan of their driver’s license or other government ID that shows they meet the minimum age requirements in their country. In some cases, Discord allows users to prove their age by providing a selfie that shows their faces (it’s not clear how a face proves someone’s age, but there you go). The social media site imposes these requirements on users…
SpaceX is gearing up for the 11th flight test of its Starship megarocket, which will launch from its Starbase in Texas as early as Monday. The launch window opens on October 13 at 7:15PM ET. You’ll be able to watch live starting 30 minutes before liftoff on the SpaceX website and on X. Starship’s latest flight follows a successful test at the end of August, during which it deployed a payload — eight dummy Starlink satellites — in space for the first time following a failed attempt earlier in the year. The company is aiming to carry out another payload demonstration…
I still love hanging out on my deck in the fall, even as the weather gets chilly. It’s a different feeling than summer, but a gentler one, with long chats into the night with friends in the warmth of a heater. In preparation for all the autumn festivities, we’ve tested grills, coolers, outdoor projectors and audio equipment, as well as kept tabs on various outdoor lighting and other great gadgets for your outdoor space. YARD AND OUTDOORS DEALS OF THE WEEK Deals are selected by the CNET Group commerce team, and may be unrelated to this article. You can (and…
For mobile gamers, nowhere has better games than iOS.Though almost all of the best gaming phones are Android handsets, Apple’s mobile platform has the best selection of triple-A (big-budget) games, console ports, and creative mobile originals. Furthermore, Apple Arcade sits leagues above Google’s Play Pass service, thanks to the curation and quality of the titles on offer.I grew up in the early days of the iPhone, and during that time my gaming console of choice was often my iPod Touch or the iPhone 5S that replaced it: I’ve always seen iOS as a unique home for some truly excellent titles.…
The UNVR Instant, unveiled on September 10, 2025, is Ubiquiti’s first consumer-friendly UniFi Network Video Recorder—it hosts the UniFi Protect application on the inside. Prior to it, the company only had rackmount versions designed for businesses. As I have already reviewed the Protect application as a whole—based on the UCG-Fiber, which has a built-in UNVR of similar specs—this review will focus on what makes the UNVR Instant stand out as a standalone add-on unit. Here’s the bottom line: The UNVR Instant is an excellent camera-based surveillance solution for the friendly cost of $199 (diskless, camera not included) or $699 (a…
Microsoft is warning of an active scam that diverts employees’ paycheck payments to attacker-controlled accounts after first taking over their profiles on Workday or other cloud-based HR services. Payroll Pirate, as Microsoft says the campaign has been dubbed, gains access to victims’ HR portals by sending them phishing emails that trick the recipients into providing their credentials for logging in to the cloud account. The scammers are able to recover multi-factor authentication codes by using adversary-in-the-middle tactics, which work by sitting between the victims and the site they think they’re logging in to, which is, in fact, a fake site…
You’ve known it for a while: Microsoft has determined that it’s moving Windows 10 to “end of life” status starting on October 14. That means while Windows 10 PCs will continue to work after that date, they’ll stop getting important security updates by default. That leaves you with three choices if you want to make sure your computer remains secure:You can choose to upgrade to Windows 11 for free if your computer is compatible. You can buy a new PC that already has Windows 11 pre-installed (or opt for an alternative, like a Mac or a Chromebook).Forget about Windows 11 right…
People in the US consume between an estimated 39,000 and 52,000 microplastic particles every year. This can come from items in our kitchens, takeout containers or even the food we eat. However, certain foods are more likely than others to contain microplastics. To learn more about which foods we should keep an eye on, how microplastics affect our health and how to avoid them, we consulted a family physician and did our research.Don’t miss any of our unbiased tech content and lab-based reviews. The second Prime Day sale of the year is inching towards its final days (it ends at 11:59pm AEDT on Monday, October 13) and I’ve only just seen that the Dyson V8 has gotten a Prime-exclusive discount that slashes 58% off the list price. This isn’t the lowest price I’ve seen on this cordless vacuum – that was AU$319.99 a couple of months ago – but this isn’t too far off. It’s a discount worth considering even though it’s now been succeeded by an upgraded Dyson V8 Cyclone that retails for AU$649.Every time it’s been discounted, I’ve seen it sell like…
