Horror movies were booming in the 1980s thanks to the slasher fad. However, finding the genre on TV was a different story. The Twilight Zone came back for a few years in the decade, and if you were a kid of a certain age, CBS’ Beauty and the Beast could be a bit creepy, but if you wanted straight-up horror, one of the only options out there was Werewolf. It debuted on the rather new Fox network in 1987, and although it ended all too soon, after two short seasons, Werewolf left its mark as a scary series ahead of…
The vast majority of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been hits at the box office, with some films even breaking records. However, 2023’s The Marvels is widely viewed as its biggest commercial flop, yet it deserves a much better reputation from fans and critics alike. In fact, The Marvels stands out for a few reasons. It has key moments that are pivotal to the future of the franchise, it features a great all-female team of superheroes, and it does the kind of stuff that the MCU should focus on going forward. In a lot of ways, it works as a…
The Looney Tunes have admittedly fallen on hard times in recent years. As far as animation was concerned, David Zaslav’s feckless régime at Warner Brothers saw the medium as a whole as an easy cut, leaving a historic library in limbo until fairly recently. One near casualty of this attitude was this very film: directed by Peter Browngardt of the lovingly-made 2020 series Looney Tunes Cartoons, a rather classical collection of animated shorts which brought the wit of a new generation of artists who studied at the altar of Chuck Jones, Bob Clampett, Friz Feleng, Tex Avery and their contemporaries. The plot of The Day…
Brodie Milner is an indie singer-songwriter who blends lo-fi sensibilities, introspective lyricism, and raw emotional texture into his music. Grounded in candid storytelling and uncluttered musical arrangements, Milner’s style feels intimate—like a whispered reflection overheard in a quiet moment. Drawing from alternative, folk, and bedroom-pop influences, his work connects deeply with listeners through honest narratives and subtle melodic craft.“Convenience Store Gospel” is a gently probing track that explores small moments of meaning in the mundane—finding depth and unvarnished truth in everyday settings. Built around understated instrumentation and evocative vocal delivery, the song juxtaposes lo-fi warmth with lyrical introspection, revealing insight in places often…
Some things just have a way of transporting you back to your childhood, and Valentine’s cards happen to do just that for me.Most of us went through the same process every year when Valentine’s Day rolled around while we were in grade school. You would make a box to collect Valentine’s from your classmates who each scurrying around the room, dropping off envelopes. There was a lot of pressure to have the best Valentine’s cards. The pressure increased when it came time to decide who should get which card. You wouldn’t want to — gasp — give someone the wrong idea that you…
Henry Cavill is best known for his work playing Superman in Zack Snyder’s DCEU, but he’s also starred in plenty of other action movies, some certainly more successful than others. Cavill unsurprisingly found box office success with 2013’s Man of Steel, but his last two movies have been colossal box office bombs. In 2024, Cavill opened the year with Argylle, the spy thriller co-starring Bryce Dallas Howard that failed to gross half its $200 million budget. He followed it with The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the WWII action thriller from Guy Ritchie that also underwhelmed at the box office despite…
As the setting for Fallout 4, Boston has become a key location in the Bethesda RPG series, which is why it makes sense for it to be immortalized in a brand-new expansion. I should start by addressing the elephant in the room: Bart Layton is very clearly a fan of Michael Mann. Making a heist film set in Los Angeles post-Heat is as risky as trying your hand at demonic possession post-Exorcist – you’re setting yourself up for a particular level of scrutiny. Layton does himself no favours by including a lot of sweeping aerial shots of the LA skyline, an electro-tinged score and casting one-time Mann star Chris Hemsworth as “Mike”, the taciturn, socially awkward but hyper-competent criminal mastermind just trying to make enough money to get away clean. So obvious is the inspiration you…
Civil Villains are one of the UK underground’s most compelling alternative trios, known for twisting complex, angular structures into something jagged yet melodic — heavy yet thoughtful. With airplay from BBC Introducing and Kerrang! Radio, the band have steadily built a reputation for raw, emotionally charged performances that balance technical precision with visceral impact.Operating with a fiercely independent ethos, Civil Villains have toured extensively across the UK and North America, including DIY headline runs in Toronto and Cambridge (MA), festival appearances at Envol Et Macadam (Quebec City), Mondo NYC, and London’s Portals Festival. Their forthcoming 2026 album signals a new chapter — one…
It’s only appropriate to watch a noir Spider-Man in black and white. But the new Spider-Noir TV series coming to Amazon’s Prime Video — starring Nicolas Cage as the title character — will be available in two different formats. Fans can watch it in either “Authentic Black & White” or in “True-Hue Full Color.”Fittingly, there are two different trailers for the show; one in black and white and one in color. First, here is the black and white version, introducing the live-action version of Spider-Man Noir, who Cage previously voiced in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.READ MORE: Every Spider-Man Movie and Spinoff, Ranked From Worst to…
