Super Mario Bros. Wonder getting the Switch 2 Edition + expansion treatment in March feels like Nintendo making the correct call, and I couldn’t think of a better game to be getting that bit more attention on the new system. To mark the new-gen upgrade and the arrival of the Meetup in Bellabel Park DLC, Nintendo is also rolling out three brand-new amiibo tied to the game. Each one costs $24.99 and they all launch on March 26, the same day the new content goes live. Pre-orders are already open. The lineup includes Elephant Mario, Captain Toad with a Talking…

I’ve mostly enjoyed the second season of Amazon and Bethesda’s live-action Fallout TV show. One thing I hated about this new season, however, was that each new episode premiered at midnight. Thankfully, Amazon is changing this release schedule for the rest of the season. On January 26, Amazon Prime Video announced its plans to release the next (and final) two episodes of Fallout season two at 6 p.m. PT instead of midnight. Season two episode seven will now arrive on Tuesday, January 27, and episode eight will be available on Tuesday, February 3. “Good morning, Vault Dwellers!” posted Amazon on…

Far more than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, the prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a story about men. The characters in George R.R. Martin’s prequel novella The Hedge Knight, which showrunner Ira Parker adapted into this six-episode series, are almost exclusively male: knights and squires and kings and princes, plus the occasional crude commoner. HBO’s adaptation A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms addresses that problem via the usual HBO playbook, by dropping some sex workers into the mix, along with one preteen noble who only pops up for a few quips. The only…

Return to Silent Hill hit the big screen on the weekend, but this adaptation of the beloved Silent Hill 2 video game isn’t doing too well critically or commercially in the US. At the domestic box office, the film opened in seventh place and earned just $3.2 million, the lowest to date for the film franchise. In comparison, it’s far below the $20.1 million US opening weekend of 2006’s Silent Hill and the reviled Silent Hill: Revelation, which earned $8 million during its domestic opening.Opening on 2,000 screens across the US, reviews for Return to Silent Hill haven’t been flattering.…

After weeks of waiting, Arc Raiders developer Embark has officially unveiled the first few months of the game’s 2026 roadmap. The plan is split into four months, covering January to April, collectively dubbed Escalation. We’re expecting a content update each month, with the majority of the biggest additions happening on the game’s existing maps. There is, however, at least one new map in the works, but it won’t be here until sometime in April. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. For some reason, Nintendo decided to hold a “Direct” presentation on a Sunday about the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie. In it, we get a new trailer showcasing a few new Mario characters joining the cast in the sequel, though we didn’t get any confirmation on whether big celebrity actors are voicing them like they are rest of the crew. Yoshi and Birdo will both make their cinematic debut in the movie when it premieres on April 1. The trailer opens with Mario and Luigi investigating a pipe that apparently has some kind of monster trapped inside. The two activate their…

An Ubisoft developer I chatted with back in 2022 was feeling pretty jealous. Elden Ring had just come out and was blowing people away. Despite FromSoftware’s reputation for challenging gameplay and esoteric design, the open-world RPG was breaking out into the mainstream. It was a hardcore game but it wasn’t only being enjoyed by hardcore gamers. Ubisoft had thousands of people working on open-world RPGs for years. Why couldn’t it make one that felt just as creatively bold, vibrant, and potent? A version of this question has been haunting the French publisher since Ghost Recon Breakpoint bombed back in 2019.…
