Pokemon Pokopia channels the spirit of Animal Crossing with fruit trees, a tranquil atmosphere, and talking creatures. It scratches the familiar “cozy game” itch that Animal Crossing: New Horizons did with its homebuilding, crafting, and focus on giving players complete agency over a vast and vibrant land. From tree and river placement to what creatures are permitted to inhabit your own personal paradise, these games share quite a lot in common–even if Pokopia’s ability to “catch ‘em all,” albeit with habitats instead of Poke Balls, shakes the formula up a bit. But, despite how similar these series are, they diverge…

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics ($49.99) As a fan of Marvel, Capcom, and fighting games back in the 1990s, Capcom’s line of fighters based on Marvel’s characters were like a dream come true. Starting off with the excellent X-Men: Children of the Atom, these games just kept getting bigger and better. Moving on to the wider Marvel Universe with Marvel Super Heroes, then the at-the-time unbelievable crossovers between Marvel and Street Fighter, on to the over the top Marvel vs. Capcom, and then the wildly over-the-top in all the right ways Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Capcom kept raising…

Embark Studios, maker of The Finals and Arc Raiders, was formed back in 2018 by former veterans of Battlefield maker DICE. Embark said the decision was mutual despite an outside investigate being unable to substantiate the allegations after they first spread on social media. “Our leadership team was recently made aware of allegations against an Embark employee,” the studio told IGN in a statement. “We take these matters seriously, and as…

Over the years, I’ve been able to interview some of my favorite developers ever including a few I never though would be possible, but it isn’t often I get to talk to one of the few people responsible for what is likely my favorite game of all time. That’s where Christopher Ortiz AKA kiririn51 of Sukeban Games comes into the picture. We’ve covered their titles on TouchArcade for years because at one point VA-11 Hall-A was even supposed to come to iPad (and I asked about that later in this interview). With Sukeban Games’ newest project, .45 PARABELLUM BLOODHOUND, officially…

Crimson Desert has had one of the more unusual marketing rollouts in recent years. It was announced back in 2019 and no one really paid attention to it until it made a splash at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023 when the open-world game showed off horse drifting. Ever since, there’s been hype around its big ambitions and visual spectacle, and skepticism around, like, what you actually spend most of your time doing in the game and whether it’s actually any fun. This week we’ll finally get to see if it can deliver. Digital Foundry has had glowing coverage of its…

Random Select is a new column from Polygon about under-the-radar video games. Every week, Polygon’s editors assign a writer to check out a game at random, downloading the game without knowing beforehand what it is. The catch? They have to play for at least an hour and report on their thoughts — honestly. This week’s game is the 2D shoot -em-up platformer Haunted Lands. Steam has more than 12,000 games with the “shoot ’em up” tag. Some of the most iconic arcade games are in the genre, and they’ve inspired plenty of games aiming to replicate that same charm over…
