Anime’s darling WIT Studio, makers of Attack on Titan and the upcoming One Piece remake, just went toe-to-toe with its own fans — and lost. The studio released an apology after receiving backlash from its use of generative AI in the opening sequence (OP) of Ascendance of a Bookworm. The anime series debuted in early April, but was immediately criticized when fans noticed tiny distortions throughout the OP. Although one of the most well-known studios in the space, WIT isn’t above the use of generative AI. While it’s withdrawing the OP and replacing it with a “completed version,” it feels…
Glass Cannon Network has been a name in the tabletop roleplaying game actual play space since 2015, acting as one of the first major channels in a space that’s barely 10 years old. According to Glass Cannon Network co-founder Troy Lavallee, a big part of that success comes down to one decision: avoiding Dungeons & Dragons.”[GCN] started out as ‘Let’s just play [Pathfinder,] the game that we know and the game that we love, because if we’re infectious about how much we enjoy this game, listeners–whether they even play the game or not, [will listen],” Lavallee told me over a…
Summer holidays might be over, but fans of Gunship Battle: Total Warfare are still in for a treat as Joycity released one of the game’s most impressive updates that introduces Sky Ace alongside numerous QOL enhancements and a special event to keep things as exciting as possible this fall. Sky Ace is a classic 2D puzzle shooter that pays homage to the legendary shooters of console gaming with an unquestionably high level of polish and prestige. It also has its own storyline. With the help of a famous cast of fighter jets, players will be able to engage in aerial…
HoYoverse just wrapped up a stacked Honkai: Star Rail Special Program, delivering the one-two punch of revealing the game’s next major update, and detailing what you can expect from its third anniversary celebrations. First off, Version 4.2, dubbed So Laughed the Masses, arrives April 22, making two characters playable, and bringing back a host of beloved characters for re-runs. The new update continues the Phantasmoon Games arc, as the story takes an especially suspect new development. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Pete Hines had worked at Bethesda for 24 years before he announced his retirement in 2023, just a month after Starfield‘s release. The outgoing VP of comms and marketing said in a new interview that he’d been planning to leave for a while after the Microsoft acquisition concluded because he felt “powerless to do what I think needs to be done to run this place properly.” The maker of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls was sold to Microsoft along with the rest of parent company Zenimax in 2021 for $7.5 billion. Without ever mentioning the tech giant by name, Hines…
The horror RPG Scarlet Hollow wasn’t the game Black Tabby duo Abby Howard and Tony Howard-Arias initially set out to make. Like Slay the Princess before it, the team viewed Scarlet Hollow as a warm-up act for the as-yet-unannounced game they really want to make, one day. Yet five years after the game’s first chapter launched, it’s raising the standard for what RPGs can, and should, achieve in their storytelling. It started with a loose end. “Neither of us knew what we were going to do next with our careers,” Howard-Arias tells Polygon over a Zoom call. “I had been…
Crimson Desert players can expect several improvements to roll out for the game in the coming months, as developer Pearl Abyss says that it’s working on new content and feature updates. The studio says that these have been partially shaped by player feedback gathered from the first few weeks after Crimson Desert launched, and they’ll be added to the game from April through June. Some of the big updates include brand-new content aimed at players seeking to dial up–or lower–the game’s challenge, like Boss Rematch and Re-blockading modes. These will allow previously defeated bosses and liberated locations to be tackled once…
Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home has been a very interesting game to follow pre-release. I say this not only because it is a premium mobile-first Harvest Moon game, but also because the reactions from my friends who are longtime fans of the series have gone from apathy to interest with every bit of gameplay shown. Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home launched recently on iOS and Android as a mobile-exclusive entry in Natsume’s Harvest Moon series, and I’ve been playing it for about a week and a half now on iPhone 15 Pro and iPad Pro for review. Harvest Moon: Home…
Doki Doki Literature Club is no longer available to play on Android devices. The hit 2017 visual novel was removed on April 8 over an alleged violation of the Google Play Store’s terms of service. Publisher Serenity Forge said it’s fighting to get the game restored to the mobile storefront and defended the visual novel’s handling of mental health issues. “Their explanation is that the game’s content violates their Terms of Service in its depiction of sensitive themes,” the company wrote in a statement on April 9. “DDLC is widely celebrated for portraying mental health in a way that meaningfully…
Not quite a year after Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale wrapped its six-season run, the sequel series, The Testaments, kicked off with a bang, dropping its first three episodes on Hulu this week. Based on Margaret Atwood’s books The Handmaid’s Tale and The Testaments, these TV shows are steeped in their own lore. So you may be wondering whether you need to have watched all six seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale to understand what’s happening in The Testaments — especially if you started watching the original show, but fell off at some point. Fortunately, by now, the showrunners are pretty adept…
