Did you ever watch Avatar: The Last Airbender and think, “Wouldn’t it be cool to have some sort of spin-off about Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors?” If the answer is yes, you’re in luck.

Collaborating with Avatar Studios and Avatar: The Last Airbender co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Dark Horse Comics presents Avatar: The Last Airbender — Kyoshi Warriors. While both Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors played a special part in Avatar’s three-season run, when it comes to your favorite characters, there’s always going to be some fans who want to see more of them.

The series, featuring cover art by Danielle Weires, written by Brandon Hoáng (The Crossbow of Destiny), illustrated by BellBessa (Avatar: The Last Airbender—Ramen Rumble) and Xanthe Bouma, colored by Adele Matera (Avatar: The Last Airbender—Ashes of the Academy), and lettered by Comicraft’s Jimmy Betancourt (Ghostbusters: Dead Man’s Chest), follows Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors as they leave their island home to join the war against the Fire Nation.

Unfortunately for Suki and her Kyoshi Warrior sisters, they are met with suspicion and resentment by the mainlanders, and even worse, the group struggles to prove themselves to the Earth Kingdom. But not all is lost: an opportunity arises that could raise their esteem. Whether they’re willing to rise to that challenge, however, remains to be seen.

From the comic’s description, we can infer that this new series will be set during season 2, when Aang and Team Avatar are traveling to the Earth Kingdom to find an earthbending teacher. Whether this means we’ll see Aang, Sokka, Katara, and Toph is a mystery, but considering the comic’s focus on Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors, we suspect any appearance will be relegated to a small cameo.

This story will be told across three monthly single-issue comics, with the first one arriving in May this year. Each issue will contain 22 pages and be available for $4.99. If you’re a fan of Avatar and Suki, then run, not walk, to your local comic shop and get your pre-order in.
