Marvel just subverted Spider-Man’s most infamous retcon in the most unexpected way: via a lore drop in Marvel Rivals. Nearly twenty years ago, “One More Day” controversially erased Peter Parker and Mary Jane’s marriage from canon; Rivals brilliantly subverts this contested storyline, and in the process delivers an even more heroic Spidey than in the comics.
Astute Marvel Rivals players clocked this twist on “One More Day” when it appeared in an in-game transcript of dialogue between Daredevil and Peter Parker.
Daredevil’s mention of his universe’s Spider-Man “making a deal with Mephisto to save his marriage,” makes the alternate Peter go oddly quiet, hinting he made the same mistake as his “One More Day” counterpart.
