While gamers are still in for a bit of a wait before they get our hands on Pokémon Winds & Waves to start exploring the new tropical region, there’s been a ton of leaked information lately that will keep us busy until its official launch next year. With several exciting rumored new evolutions on the way, including a possible new Onix form and potential Arcanine evo, as well as Gym types and more, there’s plenty to chew on to keep us busy for now.
If that wasn’t enough to get gamers hyped for the game’s launch in 2027, there’s also been a new development based on leaks that all but confirms the Elite Four types we can expect to see in the final release (via GR). Seeing as the Elite Four have always been the most difficult encounters in each game so far, that doesn’t look likely to change with Winds & Waves, and you’ll need to seriously squad up before taking them on.
While the Elite Four lineup has changed from region to region, certain types have become closely associated with the Elite Four over the years. Dragon, Psychic, Ghost, Dark, Fighting, Ice, and Fire specialists have all appeared multiple times, while Ground, Flying, Rock, Steel, Bug, and Water have also been represented.
For Winds & Waves, based on the process of elimination from various leaks in recent weeks, it’s likely we’re going to be getting Electric, Water, Bug, and Dragon types in the Elite Four showdown this time around.
The Elite Four have been one of the defining challenges of the Pokémon series since the original Pokémon Red & Blue dropped, serving as the final test before players can challenge the reigning Champion. Comprised of four of the region’s strongest Trainers, each member traditionally specializes in a particular type, requiring players to adapt their teams and strategies across multiple consecutive battles without any reprieve in between.
Interestingly, Electric, Grass, Fairy, Poison, and Normal have rarely (or in some cases never) been used as a dedicated Elite Four specialty in the mainline games, making the Electric addition to Winds & Waves particularly interesting, while the others may not be all that surprising, especially given the Dragon type has become a staple of the Elite Four by now.
It’s worth noting that these Elite Four types are still not confirmed at this point and information based on leaks should be taken with a grain of salt. Further, even if confirmed, there’s plenty of time for developers to shuffle things around in Pokémon Winds & Waves before its full release.
