This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

The Toy Story 5 box office is blasting off to infinity and beyond.

2026’s Toy Story 5 is the sixth installment in the animated Pixar franchise (which includes the 2022 spinoff Lightyear). Although the summer of 2026 has been marked by a series of disappointing debuts for major tentpoles, including Masters of the Universe, Minions & Monsters, and Supergirl, the new Toy Story movie was the rare exception when it debuted on June 19. It earned a 3-day domestic total of $159.7 million, which is the best of the year so far and was the biggest debut in history for the franchise (the second-biggest when adjusted for inflation).

Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, Toy Story 5 is projected to close out its fifth weekend in theaters by hitting a cumulative global gross of $958 million, comprising $430 million at the domestic box office and an additional $528 million from international markets. This makes the movie only the third 2026 release to pass the $950 million global milestone (behind the billion-dollar hits The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael).

This milestone puts it on track to earn roughly $1.1 billion by the end of its run, which would make it the highest-grossing movie in the six-film franchise, not adjusted for inflation. Below, see a breakdown of the box office performance of all six Toy Story movies so far:

    Title

    Worldwide Box Office

    Toy Story (1995)

    $373.5 million

    Toy Story 2 (1999)

    $497.4 million

    Toy Story 3 (2010)

    $1.067 billion

    Toy Story 4 (2019)

    $1.074 billion

    Lightyear (2022)

    $226.4 million

    Toy Story 5 (2026)

    $958 million (& counting)

In addition to being on track to become the highest-grossing movie in the Toy Story franchise, Toy Story 5 is set to become the 63rd billion-dollar movie in history and the third highest-grossing Pixar movie of all time, behind only Incredibles 2 ($1.243 billion) and Inside Out 2 ($1.699 billion).

While Pixar’s box office continues to be up and down for recent non-franchise titles, including 2023’s Elemental ($496.4 million), 2025’s Elio ($153.8 million), and 2026’s Hoppers ($389.4 million), Toy Story 5 continues the company’s trend of new sequels breaking huge records for their respective franchises. In fact, their most recent sequel to not break a franchise record is Cars 3, which came out nine years ago, in 2017.
