Happy weekend. There are numerous movies available on streaming that will hype up your days off, from one of our favorite slashers of the year to a thrilling martial arts movie you’ll wish you caught in theaters.

Faces of Death is now available on Shudder. The slasher didn’t make much of an impression on the box office, a real shame considering how successful this year has been for the genre. Directed by Daniel Goldhaber and written between himself and Isa Mazzei, the film marks another one of their great collaborations.

The Furious is also available to rent, following a duo of martial artists on the hunt for revenge, as many great Kung Fu movies before them. There’s also a 4K restoration of Amores Perros, one of the most beloved Alejandro González Iñárritu movies, and the premiere of Faces of Death on Shudder, one of my favorite movies this year. Enjoy.

    Decorado

    • Available on VOD
    • Genre: Black comedy
    • Run time: 1h 35m
    • Director: Alberto Vázquez
    • Cast: Asier Hormaza, Aintzane Gamiz, Kandido Uranga

Based on the short film of the same name, Decorado is a Spanish-Portuguese animated film and one of GKids most exciting projects. The story follows an unemployed, middle-aged, and slightly depressed mouse named Arnold, who, in the midst of an existential crisis, believes his reality to be fake and manufactured by a large corporation. Light stuff.

    9

    The Furious

    • Available on VOD
    • Genre: Action
    • Run time: 1h 53m
    • Director: Kenji Tanigaki
    • Cast: Mo Tse, Joe Taslim, Yayan Ruhian, Jeeja Yanin

The Furious follows two men on a quest for vengeance: Wang, whose daughter is abducted by a child trafficking syndicate, and Navin, the journalist whose wife went missing while investigating the same criminal group.

    8

    Amores Perros

    • Available on Mubi
    • Genre: Drama
    • Run time: 2h 34m
    • Director: Alejandro González Iñárritu
    • Cast: Gael Garcia Bernal, Emilio Echeverria, Goya Toledo, Humberto Busto.

One of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s most beloved movies is streaming on Mubi. This 4K re-release takes us back to the start of Iñárritu’s career, 25 years ago, with a movie set in his native Mexico City. It follows three stories, that of a supermodel, an assassin, and an amateur dog fighter, whose lives are intertwined by a car wreck.

    7

    Wardriver

    • Available on Paramount+
    • Genre: Thriller
    • Run time: 1h 33m
    • Director: Rebecca Thomas
    • Cast: Dane Deehan, Sasha Calle, Jeffrey Donovan

Wardriver follows a talented hacker who conducts heists from the comfort of his car. His perfectly managed life loses control when he comes in contact with a criminal who tasks him to hack a woman, putting him in the eyesight of a dangerous mob group.

    6

    Faces of Death

    • Available on Shudder
    • Genre: Horror
    • Run time: 1h 37m
    • Director: Daniel Goldhaber
    • Cast: Barbie Ferreira, Dacre Montgomery

Faces of Death is a remake but also a completely different interpretation of the source material. Based on the 1978 movie of the same name, the 2026 version follows a woman (Barbie Ferreira) who gets a horrible job as a content moderator for a video sharing platform, growing obsessed with a series of videos that appear to depict real murders. Meanwhile, the story also follows the killer committing the crimes (Dacre Montgomery), delivering one of the most entertaining villains in a very long time.

    Per our Polygon review:

Goldhaber has a keen sense of pacing through editing, and crafts some sequences, like a chase through a grassy suburb, that are viscerally exciting. The screenplay gives Ferreira both final-girl grit and a fried vulnerability that plays to her strengths as an actor. Though she’s an empathetic presence as always, Ferreira summons an open-wound emotional rawness that explains why some people find it so easy to look away from her warnings.

    5

    Redux Redux

Mia (Stella Marcus) a teenage girl with dark hair wearing sunglasses, and Irene (Michaela McManus), a middle-aged woman also wearing sunglasses, crouch in front of a sketchy-looking tunnel in Redux Redux. Image: Saban Films

    • Available on Hulu and Disney+
    • Genre: Sci-fi
    • Run time: 1h 49m
    • Director: Kevin and Matthew McManus
    • Cast: Michaela McManus

Redux Redux follows Irene (Michaela McManus), a mother grieving the loss of her daughter, who discovers a way to move through parallel universes to hunt down the killer across timelines, developing a twisted addiction in the hunt for justice.

    Per our Polygon review:

Most science fiction stories that deal with the multiverse focus on spectacle and radically different versions of our world, but Irene feels more like she’s stuck in a time loop, because the changes each jump brings are barely noticeable. Instead of playing with the possibilities of endless worlds, Redux Redux conveys a feeling that Irene is adrift in liminal places — gas stations, parking lots, abandoned homes, and seedy hotels.

    4

    Mile End Kicks

    • Available on Netflix
    • Genre: Comedy
    • Run time: 1h 51m
    • Director: Chandler Levack
    • Cast: Barbie Ferreira, Devon Bostick, Jay Baruchel

Written and directed by Chandler Levack, who based the screenplay on her personal experiences in the music industry, the movie follows a young music journalist who dreams of writing a book based on Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill. Her plans go off the rails when she falls for the members of a rising indie band.

    3

    Passenger

Lou Llobell covered in red light in the movie Passenger Image: Paramount

    • Available on VOD
    • Genre: Horror
    • Run time: 1h 34m
    • Director: André Øvredal
    • Cast: Jacob Scipio, Lou Llobell, Melissa Leo

Passenger follows a young couple who witness a highway accident and become haunted by a demonic entity as a result. It’s the latest project from André Øvredal, who’s directed some interesting horror movies in the past.

    2

    Wasteman

David Jonsson and Tom Blyth wearing prison clothes in Wasteman Image: Lionsgate

    • Available on Mubi
    • Genre: Drama
    • Run time: 1h 30m
    • Director: Cal McMau
    • Cast: David Jonsson, Tom Blyth

Wasteman is a prison drama following a prisoner nearing parole (David Jonsson), with his chances put at risk when he acquires a new cellmate (Tom Blyth) that throws him into some complicated inmate rivalries.

    1

    Reminders of Him

Maika Monroe in Reminders of Him Image: Universal Pictures

    • Available on Peacock
    • Genre: Drama
    • Run time: 1h 54m
    • Director: Vanessa Caswill
    • Cast: Maika Monroe, Tyriq Withers

Colleen Hoover adaptations are a dime a dozen nowadays, blending old-school romance with some surprisingly tragic twists. Reminders of Him follows a young mom who returns to her hometown after being imprisoned. She spent years in jail after being found guilty in the car crash that killed her boyfriend. Also, her five-year-old is now being raised by her boyfriend’s parents, who hate her.
