Chainsaw Man returns with a new series dedicated to the Assassin Arc
After the explosive success of Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc, animation studio MAPPA announced Friday that its adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s best-selling manga would continue with Assassins Arc, coming in late 2027. During the celebrations for MAPPA’s 15th anniversary, the studio released a new teaser for the highly anticipated follow-up, showcasing a bevy of new international characters from the Assassin Arc.
Fans were wondering if the next installment of the anime would be another movie or a return to the episodic format of its first season. Following today’s announcement, it’s still left vague, as MAPPA hasn’t specified in the promotional material if the new season is an episodic adventure or not. The official website for Assassin Arc isn’t labeled as a movie like Chainsaw Man The Movie – Reze Arc, which may indicate it will be a conventional TV series. However, more information should be unveiled in the coming weeks to clarify.
In the manga, the International Assassins Arc covers chapters 53-70. After Denji’s cataclysmic fight with Reze was broadcast on TV, the existence of Chainsaw Man is now known to the world, and multiple assassins are converging on Japan to kill Denji and grab Chainsaw Man’s prized heart. It’s safe to say that this arc will push the series to new heights of chaos, destruction, and the weirdness that all fans love.
During the anniversary livestream, MAPPA also unveiled a new mobile game featuring characters from Chainsaw Man. The opening video for the game was produced by the studio, which includes the song “All the Lynch All the Mince” by Maximum the Hormone. The mobile game is still in development with a release date still pending.
