Netflix’s New 8-Part Detective Crime Thriller Series Debuts To Stellar Rotten Tomatoes Score

Netflix has a new thriller series shooting its way to success.

Netflix’s best TV shows include several crime thriller series, with multiple genre shows climbing the streamer’s charts in the last couple of months. Those include two high-stakes foreign series: Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole and The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek. While the first is no longer at the top of the streamer’s charts, the latter remains firmly trending in several countries. It could soon be joined by Netflix’s latest detective series, as the 8-episode show just debuted this Thursday, May 14, and comes with the status of a critically acclaimed Netflix series.

Nemesis has debuted with a stellar 88% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, at the time of writing. Given how the new detective series has only just debuted on the streaming service, as well as how that score is based on eight reviews so far, it should fluctuate going into the weekend. That said, this is an exciting start for a show that has the potential to rise on Netflix’s global charts. All eight episodes of Nemesis season 1 are available on Netflix. Over the coming days, Nemesis‘ audience score should be revealed by Rotten Tomatoes.

Created by Courtney A. Kemp and Tani Marole, Netflix’s new crime thriller series tells the story of Matthew Law’s Detective Isiah Stiles and the man he is desperately trying to stop, Y’lan Noel’s Coltrane Wilder. As Stiles begins to investigate Wilder and his criminal gang, a ferocious battle of wits with high stakes, intense action sequences, and plenty of surprises begins. The criminal mastermind poses as a regular businessman while secretly committing scores with his crew.

At the time of writing, there is only one negative review logged on Rotten Tomatoes for the new crime series. It comes from Digital Mafia Talkies‘ Pramit Chatterjee, who compares Nemesis to a copy of the acclaimed Heat, which helped define the genre, mixed with “Tyler Perry-esque drama.” The critic claims that Netflix’s new crime thriller series ends up taking the biggest moments from the Michael Mann movie but uses them with so many clichés that by the end of the ordeal, what Heat accomplished is diluted to an incomprehensible mess.

As for positive reviews, those make up most of the chatter going on right now about Nemesis. For Collider, Jasneet Singh claims the thriller series features “unforgettable action sequences.” The critic also praises the 8-episode TV show for its delightful heist scenes, as well as the cast’s strong performances, although Singh believes that the Netflix series could have done more to develop its female characters, who do not get nearly as much to do or as intricate storylines as the show’s male players.

Nemesis is not expected to be a limited series. Speaking to Decider, co-creator Courtney A. Kemp revealed that there is an arc planned for the Netflix thriller series and that it is very much being viewed as an ongoing show. However, Nemesis has yet to be renewed for season 2, and only the viewership numbers will tell if it gets to come back for more.
