New BMW M3: Final Design Previewed

    • This rendering imagines the i3 with aggressive M-inspired design cues.
    • The production version should have a four-motor setup with a high-performance battery.
    • The new M3 could potentially have over 1,300 hp.

Now that BMW has fully revealed the new i3, the German automaker is turning its attention to the performance-oriented M3. BMW has officially unveiled it (yet), but the spy photos of the upcoming M3 have leaked online—and it looks promising.

The model isn’t expected to debut for another 18 months or so, but images shared on Instagram by the account Wilcoblok account appear to show a prototype being tested, hiding the final design of what could become the first fully electric M3 in history.

    A Sportier Look—Without Going Overboard

A closer look at the images shows a sedan with a noticeably more aggressive stance than the new BMW i3, along with a completely redesigned front end. Beneath the grille is a diamond-shaped pattern, while the bumper features a large central air intake divided by a body-colored section. On either side of the body are two additional lighting units with a blocky design—an unusual choice for the brand.

There’s also a large black air intake on the hood, a detail that reflects the sporty design language of M models—even if other elements raise a few eyebrows. Notably, the car in the photos doesn’t appear to have significantly wider track widths than the standard model, and it’s missing hallmark features like aerodynamic mirror caps, which have long been a signature of BMW M cars.

Four Motors & A Unique Sound

Beyond the styling, BMW has already confirmed some technical details. The new electric M3 is expected to feature a four-motor setup—one for each wheel—allowing for extremely precise torque distribution and chassis control. The battery pack, with an expected capacity of between 100.0 and 108.7 kilowatt-hours, will be unique to M models and designed to handle sustained high performance.

Rumors suggest a potential output of over 1,300 hp, although the final figure hasn’t been confirmed. A major focus will be on the driving experience, with BMW working on synthesized sounds and simulated gear shifts to preserve the sense of driver engagement.

Production of the electric M3 is expected to begin in early 2027. But don’t worry, a combustion M3 will remain in the lineup alongside this new EV.

Motor1’s Take: If the new BMW M3 looks this good, sign us up. This rendering takes the Neue Klasse styling and makes it more aggressive with a bigger grille, wider fender flares, and an aggressive stance. Hopefully, the performance matches the looks.
