The Surprising Reason Ferrari is Recalling the 12Cilindri

While it’s known for automakers recalling their specific types of vehicles, it’s always about an urgent safety issue that will need to be taken care of. For this one, Ferrari recalls over 80 12Cilindri models due to their windows’ tint being too dark to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

According to the documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), both the rear and side black windows that are on the Ferrari 12Cilindri do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) No. 205, which mandates that outward-facing glass must let at least 70 percent light from outside so that drivers can see well. This specific window blocks more light than required, limiting visibility for the driver, especially at night, and could lead to a crash, fire, death, and even injuries.

From information on the document, Ferrari discovered the issue while conducting a predelivery inspection in the US. The issue seems to have been brought by a wrong configuration of the model’s technical features for the US market. There have been no warranty claims submitted for this issue, injuries, or any other incidents.

To fix the issue, Ferrari will replace the the black rear and side windows with new conforming ones that meets the FMVSS regulations. The automaker will pay back the money owners spent while replacing the glass as way to compensate for there loss before the notification of the recall were sent out.

All known current owners of the affected 12-cylinder will be notified by the automaker before May 15, 2026, and they are advised to contact or visit an authorized Ferrari dealer to schedule an appointment to have the issue worked on. If you are an owner of the Ferrari 12Cilindri and worried that it’s affected you, you can contact your Ferrari representative, or you can continuously check on the NHTSA recalls website using your car’s VIN.
