Bristol’s Post-Punk Satire Turned Indie Anthem

Why it is trending: My First Time’s “Celebrity” is gaining traction across the UK punk and indie scenes for its punchy riff-driven energy, sarcastic lyricism, and a live reputation that turns every show into a riot — all while building buzz ahead of their next wave of releases and festival appearances.

My First Time are a fast-rising four-piece from Bristol who channel post-punk ferocity with biting social commentary and frenetic live intensity. Formed in 2021 while studying at Bristol University, the band — vocalist Isaac Stroud-Allen, bassist Naia Jones, guitarist James Mellen, and drummer Jordanna Forsey — have quickly become known for raucous performances and irreverent lyricism. Early singles like “Wind Up Merchant” and “Man Of Ill Repute” set the tone with snarling riffs and razor-tongued observations, drawing influence from fellow Bristolians IDLES as well as elements of dance-punk and sarcastic rock humour.

“Celebrity” encapsulates their knack for blending sardonic wit with punchy post-punk hooks. The track rides on gritty guitar lines and driving rhythms, while Stroud-Allen’s vocals deliver sharp, tongue-in-cheek commentary on fame, identity, and cultural performance. It’s both an indictment and a celebration of the contradictory urge to be seen, heard, and remembered — wrapped in a sound that’s equal parts chaotic, catchy, and cathartic.
