Disney is known for many things, but its franchises are one of the biggest pillars of the company. With the likes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, Alien, Predator, Toy Story, Avatar, Frozen, Moana, and more under its IP umbrella, the Mouse House is frequently behind massive hit sequels that are adored by audiences.
Last year was another example of this. The studio backed three new Marvel movies, James Cameron’s third Avatar, two entries in the Predator franchise, a third Tron, and even a Freaky Friday sequel. And the sequel love will continue in a major way in 2026, as new entries in Toy Story, Ready or Not, The Devil Wears Prada, Super Troopers, Avengers, and Star Wars franchises come out.
While we wait for all those upcoming 2026 franchise sequels, one of Disney’s best in recent memory is now streaming after a wildly successful theatrical release. It’s the perfect movie to watch this week, including for an entire family.
Zootopia 2 Is Finally Streaming On Disney+
Walt Disney Animation Studios brought Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde back to the big screen last year with Zootopia 2. Coming out nine years after the original $1 billion hit, the sequel shows the Zootopia police officers embark on a new case to save the animal utopia, uncovering new truths about the city’s past and their relationship.
While the sequel debuted in theaters exclusively last November, Zootopia 2 is now streaming on Disney+ for the first time as of March 11. The movie is currently available worldwide for all subscribers to Disney’s streaming service. The studio waited 105 days to release it on Disney+, which is longer than average but also in line with Disney’s biggest hits, which Zootopia 2 absolutely qualifies as.
The animated sequel received nearly universal acclaim as people saw it. Zootopia 2 sits at 91% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics, making it Certified Fresh. The general public loved it even more, giving it a near-perfect audience score of 96%, which puts it in Verified Hot territory.
If there was a need for further proof of how much audiences adored the movie, look no further than Zootopia 2‘s box office. The movie obliterated records on its path to making an outstanding $1.8 billion worldwide. That’s the ninth-highest total for any movie all time. Zootopia 2 is also officially the highest-grossing G or PG movie ever with that total.
Whether you didn’t go see Zootopia 2 in theaters or are just eager to rewatch it as many times as you want, the film’s streaming release makes it instantly streamable for any Disney+ subscriber. If you aren’t already subscribed, Disney is currently offering a deal for $4.99/month for three months.
Why Zootopia 2 Is Worth Watching
The easy access to Zootopia 2 through streaming means you should absolutely check it out if you haven’t already. The movie is smart, funny, emotional, and contains strong themes. It’s also wonderfully animated, as usual for Disney, to ensure plenty of enjoyment will be had from start to finish. Zootopia 2 winds up being one of Disney’s best animated sequels.
Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman effortlessly return as Judy and Nick, with their chemistry even better this time around. Ke Huy Quan, Andy Samberg, Fortune Feimster, and Patrick Warburton are among the great new additions to the cast, too, each adding to the film’s comedy.
With a runtime of only 1 hour and 50 minutes, Zootopia 2 is also a very easy movie to get through in a single sitting. It has enough sophistication in its humor and themes to keep adults/parents entertained, while it should have no trouble keeping younger viewers engaged. Ultimately, if you loved 2016’s original film, there’s even more to enjoy with the sequel. And with Zootopia 2 unlikely to be where Nick and Judy’s story ends, watching this one will ensure you’re all caught up whenever Disney gets around to making Zootopia 3.
