Given the movie’s over $200 million global haul at its opening box office weekend, it seems as if most of the country has already seen Jon M. Chu‘s Wicked: For Good in theaters. The second chapter of the fight for freedom and justice in the Emerald City sees Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda’s (Ariana Grande) journey come to an explosive close, and the world can’t stop talking about it. But, with Wicked: For Good set to dominate the box office again this weekend, many who have already seen the sequel will be looking for something else to watch. With that in mind, here are three movies you should give a try on Netflix this weekend.

‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ (2023)

    Rotten Tomatoes: 33% | IMDb: 5.6/10

For anyone who watched and loved this year’s blockbuster hit video game adaptation, A Minecraft Movie, why not catch Jason Momoa‘s 2023 superhero flick this weekend? The sequel to 2018’s Aquaman, the film follows Momoa’s titular half-Atlantean, half-human king of Atlantis as Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) seeks revenge on him with more fury than ever before.

Also starring the likes of Patrick Wilson and Nicole Kidman, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom might not be the best entry in the DCEU, but it is certainly one well worth your time. An action-packed adventure boasting a terrific, committed central performance from Momoa, this is a thrilling weekend watch you won’t want to miss.

    2

    ‘Left-Handed Girl’ (2025)

    Rotten Tomatoes: 98% | IMDb: 7.6/10

Fancy something brand-new this weekend? Don’t miss out on Shih-Ching Tsou’s Left-Handed Girl as it makes its Netflix debut. Co-written and produced by Academy Award record-breaker Sean Baker, the film follows a single mother and her two young daughters as they arrive in Taipei looking for a new life. However, the road to security and a sense of belonging is anything but smooth.

In almost every category, Left-Handed Girl is a triumph. A compassionate, emotionally affecting tale about identity and community, critics praised the film’s seamless editing and gorgeous cinematography on top of an array of talented performances. “Left-Handed Girl is one of the best solo directing debuts of the year, which really keys into the heart and love that has always been underneath Baker and Tsou’s work together,” Collider’s Ross Bonaime wrote in his review.

    ‘Last Christmas’ (2019)

    Rotten Tomatoes: 46% | IMDb: 6.5/10

There is now less than a month until the big day, and the Christmas spirit continues to grow. For a taste of festive fun this weekend, look no further than director Paul Feig‘s Last Christmas. The film follows Emilia Clarke‘s Kate, a single young woman down on her luck who finds unlikely yuletide solace in the form of the seemingly perfect Tom (Henry Golding).

Christmas movies come and go each year, often fading into obscurity as soon as they arrive. This is not the case for Last Christmas, a film that has only grown in popularity ever since it debuted. Clarke and Golding have wonderful chemistry in this festive-spirited, emotionally heartfelt tale, with the final moments sure to have your jaw on the floor.
