The Mercedes-Benz EQAandEQBelectric SUVs have been recalled for a potential fire risk, with a half a dozen examples affected.

“Due to a software issue, the high voltage battery may short circuit if charged over 80 percent capacity,” the company says in its recall notice.

“If this occurs, the battery could overheat and lead to a vehicle fire.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, and bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

Mercedes-Benz will contact owners when a software update is available.

Until this update is deployed on your vehicle, Mercedes-Benz says not to charge your battery above 80 per cent. You can adjust the maximum charging level either through your touchscreen or in the Mercedes-Benz app.
