The 2027 Mercedes Benz S-Class has been unveiled and now introducing new updates to the Mercedes Benz flagship sedan. While the automaker describes this as a mid-cycle refresh rather than a generation change, the engineering revisions are substantial. According to Mercedes, over half of the vehicle’s components have been renewed or revised, marking the most extensive update of this kind in the model’s history.

Despite the heavy mechanical and digital reworking, the exterior sheet metal remains largely unchanged from the generation that debuted back in 2021 when it made its debut. Instead, the 2027 model relies on advanced lighting technology and powertrain upgrades to distinguish itself.

While the bodywork remains unchanged, the 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Classintroduces a distinct nighttime signature heavily utilizing the brand’s three-pointed star motif. Both headlamps and taillamps now feature star-shaped elements. The headlights incorporate “Ultra Range” high-beam technology capable of swiveling and a new partial high-beam function. Also, The front grille is 20 percent larger and houses a pattern of Mercedes stars.

For the first time, an optional illuminated hood ornament is available; it is engineered to be visible to pedestrians but shielded from the driver’s view to prevent distraction. The puddle lamps now project the full “Mercedes-Benz” name onto the ground, and the exterior update is completed by a new Manufaktur option: intricate 50-spoke high-pressure-cast wheels.

Interior Appearance and Updates of 2027 S-Class

The cabin has undergone a significant digital transformation, boosted by the arrival of the “Hyperscreen” to the S-Class lineup. This dashboard consists of a spanning glass unit that integrates three displays: one a 12.3-inch display screen that acts as driver’s instrument cluster, a 14.4-inch central touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch display for the front passenger.

For what’s new They have updated the MBUX system, which now features Google Automotive AI. Users interact with a “humanized” digital helper, visualized as either an animated Mercedes star or “LittleBenz” which is an avatar blending robotic and humanoid features. They also brought back physical controls that address common critiques of modern automotive interiors. Mercedes has redesigned the steering wheel to replace several touch-capacitive swipe pads with traditional physical controls.

For comfort and climate control The vehicle introduces the industry’s first heated front seatbelts. Additionally, digital vent controls allow airflow positions to be saved to memory profiles, though manual adjustment remains an option. Rear screens have expanded to 13.1 inches and now support video conferencing via integrated cameras. The previous rear-seat tablet has been replaced by dual remote controls.

    Powertrain Enhancements

The 2027 lineup retains the S500, S580, and S580e designations, but performance figures have been bolstered across the board. All models utilize a nine-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

Mercedes has standardized the 4.5-degree rear-steering system, with a more aggressive 10-degree system remaining an option. The standard Airmatic air suspension and optional Active Body Control return, but both are now augmented by “iDamping.” This new intelligent damping system utilizes cloud data to preemptively adjust the suspension. Information regarding road irregularities is crowdsourced from other Mercedes-Benz vehicles on the road and transmitted to the S-Class to prepare the chassis before the car hits a bump.

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz S500, S580, and S580e are scheduled to reach dealerships in the second half of the year. Pricing has not yet been announced, and details regarding the high-performance AMG S63 and ultra-luxury Maybach variants are expected to be released at a later date.
